Bengaluru Road Accident: Bank Employee Killed in Motorcycle Collision Bengaluru A 27 year old woman lost her life after being struck by a speeding motorcycle while crossing Dr. Rajkumar Road in Rajajinagar on Monday afternoon. The two had been dating for over a year after meeting on Instagram. Investigators said Shubham had begun suspecting Aparna of being in touch with another man, leading to frequent arguments and emotional distress. Police said the accused illegally procured a pistol loaded with four rounds and asked Aparna to meet him in Nelamangala on the pretext of a discussion. Vrishabhavathi River Born at the feet of Doddabasavana Gudi, now Bengaluru’s Poison River. Once a sacred, life-giving stream, the 69-km-long Vrishabhavathi River has been turned into a toxic sewer by decades of criminal neglect. It drains nearly half of Bengaluru and carries around 500 Million Litres per Day (500 MLD) of untreated or poorly treated sewage, industrial effluents, and solid waste. For 6–9 months a year, raw sewage dominates its flow. BOD levels routinely exceed 100 mg/L (permissible limit: 3–5 mg/L). COD has hit shocking highs one intercepted industrial tanker showed 69,000 mg/L, thousands of times above safe limits. Heavy metals, plastics, and deadly contaminants have earned it the name “Visha-bhavathi” (Poison River). Just days ago, a 40-year-old mother elephant died an agonising death after drinking this contaminated water in the Maggur forest area of the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary. Post-mortem revealed around 35 litres of toxic mix in her stomach. Countless other mute creatures are dying silently. Their cries go unheard by those in power. This tragedy is not inevitable. Experts have repeatedly shown that with proper sewage diversion, functional STPs, desilting, and strict enforcement, the Vrishabhavathi could supply treated water to nearly half of Bengaluru. Instead, the river flows wasted while the city gasps for water lakes disappearing, groundwater crashing, and tanker mafias thriving. Shame on the successive Governments of Karnataka Congress, BJP, JD(S), or any coalition. No party has shown real political will. They pour thousands of crores into vanity projects, flyovers, metro extensions, and photo-op schemes, but treat river revival with contempt. • The much-hyped ₹391-crore “reboot” plan for Byramangala reservoir has been slammed by independent reports for ignoring root causes and simply pushing pollution downstream onto Kanakapura farmers, who then grow vegetables with toxic water. • The Karnataka High Court has repeatedly slammed BBMP, KSPCB, and other agencies, imposing costs for inaction on encroachments, sewage dumping, and delays. Yet files keep moving in circles. • Decades of PILs, expert committee reports, and KSPCB data gather dust on shelves. To the politicians and respected officers (IAS, KAS, engineers, and pollution control officials): You are equally responsible. You draft reports, sanction funds, conduct “raids,” and then look the other way. You protect industries and real-estate lobbies instead of enforcing laws. You attend seminars on “Smart City” and “Green Bengaluru” while this river dies in front of your eyes. Your silence and selective blindness are enabling this environmental crime. Bengaluru’s future is literally flowing away as poison. Reviving the Vrishabhavathi is not rocket science it is basic governance and moral duty. What we lack is not money or technology, but integrity and accountability from those who occupy chairs of power. History will not forgive you. Future generations of Bengaluru and the silent wildlife will curse the politicians who prioritised power and contracts, and the officers who failed to do their duty. Stop the criminal neglect. It doesn't show any graphic scenes like bodies, injuries, or blood. It's just a brief exchange between a police officer in combat and two girls he rescues. I watched it exactly a week ago for the first time, and since then, it hasn't left my mind. Every time I think about it, a shiver runs down my spine. Here's the story of these girls and their family. A horrific tale beyond imagination. On the morning of October 7th, the Swissa family from Sderot woke up to an alarm instructing them to enter a protected space due to rocket fire from Gaza. The parents, Dolev and Odia, had a routine: whenever rocket fire from Gaza began, they quickly packed a suitcase and left the city for a short period until the rocket threat subsided, as they did this time. After a few minutes, they took their two little daughters, placed them in the family car, and headed towards the exit of Sderot. As they approached the city's entrance, Dolev saw a car with terrorists on it. Realizing they had no choice, Dolev took his 3-year-old daughter, Lea, and ran with her out of the car, while Odia took 6-year-old Romy and tried to hide with her among the trees. A few meters behind the car and in the midst of running, Dolev was shot by the terrorists while holding his little daughter in his hands. He told her to run to her mom and hide. When Lea, the 3-year-old, reached her mom, Odia realized she had to do something to save her daughters. She put both of them in the car but couldn't start driving due to shock. At that moment, Amar, an Arab-Israeli, recognized the mother's distress, got out of his car, and entered the Swissa family's car in an attempt to save them. Amar drove the car towards the Sderot police station, unaware that, at that moment, Hamas terrorists had taken over the police station. As Amar approached the police station with the car, the terrorists sprayed the car with bullets, killing both him and Odia in the front seat. The two little girls, Lea and Romy, continued to sit in the back seat of the car while their mother died in front of them. After long minutes, several police officers arrived at the scene to rescue the little girls. As seen in the video, 6-year-old Romy, in her desperate plea, shouts, "No, please, no." She thinks they are terrorists. After the officers identify themselves, she cries out, "Take us, please take us." And then immediately, "I'm here with my baby sister." While the officers rescue her and her little sister. This scream has not left me for long days. A 6-year-old who saw her mom murdered before her eyes, surrounded by a war between terrorists and police, has to protect her little sister. It’s the end of an era. My 95-year old Padma aunty has passed away with a serene smile on her face. Childless, widowed, and with just a Hindi teacher’s income. Yet, she has shown us how to live. Life was not too kind to her. A beautiful woman, she was married to my uncle, who had little formal education and never managed to hold on to a job. But Aunty was not one to surrender to circumstances. She taught herself Hindi, persevering until she had mastered the language well enough to teach it and earn her own living. She was also the eldest daughter-in-law in a large joint family, and much of the burden of running the household fell upon her shoulders. I remember once talking to her and being astonished to discover how many members of the family she had nursed through serious illnesses, including typhoid and dengue. She spoke of these things so matter-of-factly, as though caring for the sick, feeding the family and shouldering other people's burdens were simply part of the natural rhythm of life. There was no self-pity, no tally of sacrifices made, no expectation of gratitude. If I had been in her place, I'd have been smashing things around me. After my uncle passed away, she lived alone for decades, fiercely independent and remarkably self-sufficient. Even at 88, I remember seeing her walking to the shops to buy her own groceries. She cooked for herself and, whenever we visited, would invariably produce something delicious for us—sajjige, akki rotti or some other homemade treat. She belonged to an era when Atithi Devo Bhava was a way of life; a guest was regarded as a god, not a pain in the backside! At 90, she even made the effort to attend my book launch at the Institute of World Culture in Bengaluru. I could barely speak when I saw her in the audience. What I found most marvelous is that despite her modest earnings, she lived sparsely and saved money to not just buy a house but to donate to educational causes and now finally, she even left money to get a decent Antyeshti (cremation) without burdening anyone! One of the beneficiaries of her daana was Bhagini Seva Samaja. It was a mystery to me that she could give so much when she looked like she had nothing. It’s the power of austerity that creates abundance. Last year, when my father sent me photos of her endowment to BSS Mysore, I was firstly, taken aback by the beautiful school premises and, secondly, the magnificent room built for children to play chess. Aunty’s name was engraved on a plate outside the room. It was inaugurated by Shri Vishvesha Tirtha of Pejavara Matha. I have my own precious childhood memories of Aunty. During our holidays in Bengaluru, my father would drop me off at her house so she could help me with my Hindi holiday homework. I would secretly smile at her unmistakably South Indian pronunciation, but I also knew that she knew her subject thoroughly! The last time I visited her was during a difficult period when my father, recovering from a brain injury, was giving us all a hard time with his stubbornness and tantrums. I asked Aunty if she would say a few words to him on video. She readily agreed and, with the gentle authority of an elder, sweetly admonished him, asking him to cooperate with his caregivers and stop being so stubborn. I feel blessed that my husband and daughter had the opportunity to know her, even if only a little. There is one image of her that I know will remain with me forever. Whenever we left her house, she’d stand at the balcony to see us off. We’d turn around and wave, and she would raise her hand in an Abhaya Mudra and her lips would move as if she was saying “Go forth without fear. Be happy. Be well. May life be good to you.” Travel well, my dearest Aunty. May your onward journey be smooth. And if you choose to return to Earth, please find your way into our family once again.

#EastEnders Powerful and emotional scenes at Zoe's bedside as Jean delivers a heartfelt and incredibly moving monologue in the wake of Zoe's death 💔😢 There was so much to unpack from this 4 mins of diagloue from Jean today. It's moments like this that bring a family together at times of crisis and the most important thing right now is for the Slaters to stand united and support each other through their grief. So many emotions were phenomenally portrayed in specific moment, Anger, grief, sadness, heartache, pure shock that feels so raw but also denial as well. The Slaters have had their worlds turned completly upside down in the blink of an eye and it's this scene in particular that makes you appreciate how special life is and how you have to lean on the people that you hold dearly and love deeply in the world but also appreciate and embrace life to the full because you never know what life throws around you and what lurks around every corner. ❤️🥺 An emotional Tommy sat on his own in the corner of the Vic absolutely floored me 💔😢 A scene can speak a thousand words and Sonny Kendell excelled in this moment. Remember he bought Zoe back to Walford - she encouraged him to do the right thing over Joel as well. Not only would Tommy feel emotional over Zoe's death because they formed such a close bond but he'll also feel guilty - if Kat wasn't looking out for Tommy she'd have been with Zoe and that will haunt Tommy for the rest of his life 💔😢. I think they're definitely going to go down the Alcohlism route with Tommy as Kat isolates herself from her son after blaming him for her death. Tommy is just about recovering from the Joel situation now Zoe's death is another shedload of trauma for him to deal with - he's really going through the motions right now. I'm just glad he's got a strong family unit around him who are there to look out for him when needed. Lily was so good in tonight's episode as well - We saw how much Martin's death impacted her - now she's been evicted and Zoe has died but she's still keeping strong for her family when they need her to be. 💔😢. Lilia Turner is such a little superstar I hope they keep her on the show for years and years to come. A huge congratulations to everyone involved in this scene not just in front of the camera but behind as well. The direction of this 4 minute scene was spectacular and benefited from no music as well. Tonight's episode was absolutely devastating! 💔🥺😢
