𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗿𝗮 𝗕𝘂𝗴𝘁𝗶 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝘽𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙘𝙝 𝙔𝙖𝙠𝙟𝙚𝙝𝙩𝙞 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙚 Pir Koh, a sub-tehsil of Dera Bugti in Balochistan, is currently facing a severe humanitarian crisis. Despite its proximity to Sui—home to one of Balochistan’s largest natural gas reserves—the region’s population of over 50,000 people is enduring a crippling shortage of drinking water. This devastating situation, worsened by extreme heat and chronic governmental neglect, has forced families to take to the streets in protest or abandon their ancestral homes in search of water. The continued failure of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHE) to provide a sustainable solution has placed tens of thousands of lives in immediate danger. This is not the result of a natural calamity—it is a man-made disaster caused by decades of state negligence. Despite being the electoral constituency of the current Chief Minister of Balochistan, Pir Koh remains parched and abandoned. Rather than prioritizing the urgent needs of his own community, the Chief Minister appears more concerned with advancing politicized narratives that vilify peaceful citizens. The people of Balochistan have long been denied their most basic rights. If they are not met with violence, they are left to die from thirst, medical neglect, or the breakdown of essential infrastructure. The water crisis in Pir Koh is not an isolated tragedy—it is part of a broader pattern of systemic discrimination and deliberate underdevelopment by the state. We urgently call on the United Nations, UNICEF, Amnesty International, and all relevant international humanitarian organizations to take immediate action in response to this man-made water crisis in Dera Bugti. The people of Pir Koh—and all of Balochistan—deserve access to water, dignity, and protection. The international community must not remain silent.
