A 100% open-source alternative to n8n! Sim is a drag-and-drop open-source platform to build and deploy Agentic workflows. - Runs 100% locally - Works with any local LLM I used it to build a finance assistance app & connected it to Telegram in minutes. The workflow is simple: -... show more

That's a wrap! If you found it insightful, reshare it with your network. Find me → @_avichawla Every day, I share tutorials and insights on DS, ML, LLMs, and RAGs.

Wait, wasn’t n8n already open-source?

Wow this looks amazing! Can we also trigger this workflow from WhatsApp ?

You bet! Here are the triggering options I found when I built this workflow:

Perfect!!

Cool thank you

🤝

lol, n8n is open-source

I get your point, but I won't call it 100% open-source. It's rather source-available under the Sustainable Use License, and has some restrictions. See this comparison: @grok what's your judgment if we compare the licenses of n8n and sim?

n8n uses the Sustainable Use License, which is source-available but restricts commercial use and redistribution without an enterprise license. Sim uses Apache 2.0, a permissive open-source license allowing free use, modification, and distribution for any purpose, including commercial, with attribution. Sim offers more freedoms overall.

The bigger picture: tools like Sim are bridging the gap between raw LLM experimentation and maintainable agentic systems. Soon, building multi-agent workflows could be as accessible as designing a Figma prototype. 🔥 @simdotai

@simdotai Totally. Have you used Sim's Copilot? I find it super helpful to build these workflows with prompts.

@simdotai I'm definitely going to check :)

Isn’t n8n open source and can be used locally? LOL

N8N is open source and free

Interesting, the local LLM support is a nice feature.

Yeah! You can run it with local LLM via Ollama. Setup:

Thanks, let's see what it is.

Love how simple this looks… anyone tested stuff like #LAM from @GetActionModel alongside tools like Sim yet? #ActionModel

I thought n8n already open source

Finally !!! Cos I don’t know how people endured that contraption of n8n doses

Isn't n8n already open source?

good to know - pretty disappointed at this.

Sounds interesting, thanks for sharing! I’m a bit concerned about concurrency, n8n manages it well while it’s less clear with Sim. From what I’ve seen, there seems to be a layer based execution model worth exploring, but the Python SDK currently runs synchronously so no real //

I see what you did there

Amazing

N8N is open source. FYI

Hey Avi, that sounds super interesting! Im curious how you found the experience of building your finance assistance app with Sim compared to other platforms. What do you think sets it apart in terms of ease of use?

Isn't n8n already an free open source alternative to Zapier? What makes this program stand out compared to n8n?

Nice post

I tried running it in a container... could not get liftoff. Granted. I later figured that Using ssl might make a diffirence. Will try afgain soon.

@lonseidman i didn't read hardly any of this post or its replies but maybe consider making a video comparing this to nodemation (n8n)

Oh v0.2.x is just last week 🥲

I will definitely try this one, looks so promising! OSS will win

This is exactly what the no-code automation space needed. Running everything locally with your own LLMs removes all the privacy concerns and vendor lock-in. The Telegram integration in minutes shows how powerful this can be

based share mate, adding SimAI to the spotlights

You can self host N8N on railway, it will cost you less than $5/month

Any chance anyone has built a succesfull container image ?

@threadreaderapp unroll

This is really a cool alternative. Thanks for sharing! BTW did it support same set (or a good number) of tools for integration ?

yes, of course. I don't remember the exact number but there are a ton of them. Which ones do you use typically?

as opposed to the restrictive, closed source n8n

Gotta try
