An extraordinary story from Ithumba Head Keeper Benjamin🔊 Several years ago, this bull appeared and calmly walked into a stockade. Such behaviour is highly unusual for a wild elephant — so Benjamin and the team went to investigate: They found he had been struck in the ankle by an arrow. Once he saw his message for help had been received, the bull walked back out of the stockade and waited. We mobilised the SWT/KWS Tsavo Vet Unit, who treated his injury. Joint wounds can have lethal implications, so this intervention very likely saved his life. Despite being wild from birth and wounded by human hands, he understood we offered a place of sanctuary in the landscape - likely communicated to him by our ex-orphans and other elephants we have treated over the years. Remember Romeo? The young student whose story touched so many of us last week? I met him again recently and couldn’t help but notice his shoes were really worn out. He quietly confirmed they’d been like that for a while. So, I told him, “After school, wait for me I’ve got a surprise for you.” He was a bit late coming out (turns out he's a scout, so he had duties to finish), so I waited and passed the time chatting with his schoolmates bright, respectful kids full of potential. the full video is on my Youtube Long story short, I took Romeo to Bata and got him a brand-new pair of shoes. The smile on his face… man, it was everything. Sometimes it’s the small things like a good pair of shoes that restore dignity and confidence in a young person. 🚨HOLY CRAP!!! A 5-year-old boy in North Carolina was found WANDERING A ROAD at 10 PM with no shoes, no pants, crying for his mom, because she LEFT him alone in their apartment. A man named Antwain Daniels saw a tiny boy, called 911, then he picked the little boy up and put him on his BACK so his bare feet wouldn't touch the cold ground. He wrapped him in a blanket and then he took the shoes off his own feet and put them on the child. On the video, you can hear the little boy crying for his mother... while a complete stranger protected him better in five minutes than the people who were supposed to. Police found out his mom, 36-year-old Camille Banks, had left the apartment and the boy went looking for her and wandered out into the night. She has been cited for child abuse.
