Yeah, sure, depends on what you want. One could either just use MPRIS, which cliamp is sending data to, which is more generic. You can also use the IPC and connect directly to cliamp!

I love the TUI! It's what give cliamp it's unique charm. It reminds me of winamp, a throwback to simpler days & those smooth visualizations - absolutely glorious!

I need to try Cliamp, thanks for the reminder! I recently stored my music on Ugreen and tried Strawberry. But playing from the terminal, it's even better :) Need to see if it handles 500 GB of music :)

Let me know how it handles 500 GB of music. I do not think anyone has tried such a collection. Some are doing it through providers like Jellyfin, etc though, but not directly from disk!

Hey! Super cool concept 🔥 I’m mostly a hardcore TUI guy myself (currently building a TUI framework for Go), so I really respect that Cliamp stays TUI-first. That said, a native GUI wrapper is always a win — especially for non-developers and people who just want something polished and low-friction without sacrificing the low-memory philosophy. Looks clean as hell. Love it!

I did GTK for a while, but ended up migrating Aether from GTK to using Wails. Now, that is not native, though. If it were a rewrite, I would use Qt6.

A GUI wrapper is fine as long as it stays a wrapper. Half my work happens over ssh from a phone, so the day a feature ships GUI first and the TUI gets it later is the day I drop the tool

In March 2026, I started on a TUI-based music player called cliamp. It was made as a tribute to Winamp, which we all love. I gained traction on my first post, which was really shitty compared to what I can do now, but nostalgia kicked in. It was a few months ago, included as the default Omarchy TUI music player. cliamp has separate providers, like - Spotify - YouTube Music - Jellyfin - SSH streaming - Local streaming - 30k+ radio channels - And much more It can run in daemon mode (no tui), it has IPC to be controlled by and from whatever you want, a full cli. The cliamp radio channel has exploded, and in the last seven days it has had around 115,000 sessions in total. The goal is to make cliamp even better, so I am working on the architecture. E.g., better IPC, so you can run it in daemon mode and build what you want on top of it to control it. I am also working on a GUI version that will use the IPC, as many have requested a GUI. Anyways, here's a short video of cliamp. It is pretty. It might not be the best UX to use yet, but it is the prettiest TUI music player out there. Thanks

I think that's what keeps most artists learning - the feeling and mental state the drawing generates while you do it. Equally, if you want to skip that, you go for it.
