A demonstration of additive light mixing. Overlapping red, green, and blue light creates white light. A narrow slit separates each source based on position, and blocking one color at a time reveals cyan, magenta, and yellow, each formed from the two remaining colors. 📽️: art.pete.repeat | IG

I'm 54, I recall vividly at 8 years old taking golf pro lessons in a basketball gym the dozen or so shadows on the floor patterned around my club head from the many light sources, was so revealing my understanding about light. This reminds me of that.

blocking green and leaving red plus blue making magenta is the part that always messes with my head

wow

Nice demo. But does additive mixing mislead people into thinking RGB primaries are fundamental rather than just a practical choice?

The fun bit: red and green light can look yellow without producing light at yellow wavelengths. The mixture can give our cone cells a matching pattern of stimulation. The photons haven't changed careers; our visual system is interpreting the signals.
