Speaking of missionaries, a new mural at the Provo Missionary Training Center recognizes the Church’s first single sister missionaries — Inez Knight and Jennie Brimhall. And Episode 303 of the Church News podcast features how we can connect with Jesus Christ through Church historic sites. The free-of-charge museums, sites, monuments and markers show Church heritage and history.

Called to Serve: One of my new assignments is to serve on the Missionary Executive Committee. It has been inspiring to see the work of the Lord hastening across the entire world. This week as part of a series of leadership meetings in United States West Area, I accompanied Elder Gary E. Stevenson and Elder Peter M. Johnson on a mission conference in the Washington Kennewick Mission. I was inspired as we met each one of the missionaries and felt that their commitment to proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ.

A record number of people are joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Last year, over 308,000 people joined the Church. This is an increase of about 50,000 from the previous year… and the highest number of converts in a quarter century. In fact, convert baptisms were higher than in any 12 month period in Church history between June of last year and May of this year. The numbers were shared by Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles last month at the Provo Missionary Training Center. He said as exciting as this increase in baptisms is, “we’re delighted to learn that the increase for new members attending sacrament meeting was even higher.” Elder Cook pointed to the Lord and said He is the reason. Elder Cook also said when missionaries understand and continually apply the missionary purpose — “we see miracles in the Lord’s work.”

Speaking of missionaries, a new mural at the Provo Missionary Training Center recognizes the Church’s first single sister missionaries and inspires current missionaries. The first single sister missionaries — Inez Knight and Jennie Brimhall — reached England in 1898, with the new mural depicting their service. Walking past it at the MTC includes those who are making history as the new wave of sister missionaries going out at age 18. The Church recently released site locations for three temples in South America — Medellín, Colombia; Goiânia, Brazil; and Campo Grande, Brazil. The Church has also released a rendering of the new Spanish Fork Utah Temple. It was the last of the 15 temples announced in April 2025 by President Russell M. Nelson in his final general conference address. After becoming the first baptized member of the Church in the Democratic Republic of the Congo 40 years ago, President Junior Banza is returning to the country as a mission president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Kinshasa North Mission. President Banza was baptized in 1986 — at 14-years-old — after the Church was officially recognized by the country. He says of returning to the DR Congo: “The Lord has given me a front-row seat to His biggest miracle.” Inside a refugee camp in Kenya, a new branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is growing in numbers. What started out as just six members, the branch has grown to over 100 in a year. Most people came to the camp after fleeing conflict or insecurity in their countries. And they now meet each Sunday to worship and find strength in Jesus Christ together.

Visiting with missionaries in England recently was immensely nostalgic for me, as I also served as a young missionary in this wonderful country. Elder Clark G. Gilbert and I were so grateful to spend time with these amazing servants. I testify that missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints around the world are indeed the Lord’s emissaries.

Visiting with missionaries in England recently was immensely nostalgic for me, as I also served as a young missionary in this wonderful country. Elder Clark G. In September 2020, Paris Hilton launched a petition to shut down Provo Canyon School, a youth residential treatment center in Utah where she says she endured abuse as a teenager. Now, the school is closing for good. Hilton spent the last six years turning her allegations of abuse at Provo Canyon into a broader reform movement. From Utah’s Capitol to Congress, she helped push for stronger oversight of youth treatment programs, especially in Utah. On Friday, the Utah Department of Health and Human Services determined that both the boys’ and girls’ campuses were not safe for the children in their care, marking the end of a years-long push for accountability from Hilton and fellow survivors.
