A quick look into remote persistent sessions with Superlogical! Not just remote sessions, but some functionality like remote directory lists, too. Superlogical can actually be a full SSH replacement (I don't run SSH on my servers anymore), and I talk about that briefly, too.

woah this is actually crazy i didn’t realize this was essentially an ssh replacement this is insane

Yep, many things yet to be revealed, but it is (can be) a full SSH replacement. The architecture to enable that safely is pretty fun and I can't wait to talk about it. But, imagine every SSH connection is persistent forever, multiplayer, more resilient to poor networks, supports more than just terminals, etc. etc. etc. Also, agents, oh the agents!

Holy fuck i really need this please drop soon

Does it use Google QUIC?

Yep. Although we have a fallback to some easier-to-adopt protocols if needed.

@MoralPriest every round trip matters

@mitchellh Sick, was looking at a SSH client with QUIC a few days back

if you ever need beta testers 👉👉

Sorry to ask again and again, How does it compare to herdr? Iam currently using it? do we have any benchmarks comparing to herdr? I really like your work, one of your tweets on why speed should be a primitive changed my view on few things

remote go to dir 🤯

but wait, there's more! but yes, its very cool!

Dropping SSH entirely is the part I'd want to see stress tested. SSH's failure modes are boring and well understood after thirty years. What's the recovery path when the persistent session layer itself breaks and you're locked out of a box with no fallback daemon running?

Maybe pasting image over ssh next? ;)

Now I'm curious how you test all this!

Nice. I have something on those lines. But for the browser. Try: Repo: Would love your feedback.

Hey, hand me the beta version I can't wait anymore!

Any thoughts around mosh or similar? One thing I've found is I'm going back to mosh when connecting to my machine from my phone when remote - will this replace mosh eventually?

I talk about it in the video

Is cut copy paste across machines just as easy?

Wait for a follow up demo. :)

covers all my tmux + ssh use cases. the only nit is that i'd add a feature to make UI more minimalistic (drop liquid glass)

Exists

a tool that replaces ssh and also lists directories is exactly the kind of small sharp thing that makes you wonder why ssh was doing half the stuff it was doing.

@sudomateo Hey @Tailscale would be great to have tailscale be natively compatible with superlogical when it comes out. Like you do for ssh

will you provide a flake/home-manager package with overrides to setup remote machine/sessions (not sure if it's viable)

@adamhjk @mitchellh I have saved the video. I love this idea. When is GA?

when is this thing coming out?? lol would love to test it :)

God I love responsive interfaces. I’ve been craving something like this for ages

Building something similar "no ui" deamon to manage agentic session across machines

wen release?

Does it share the same keyboard shortcuts as tmux?

Cool to see NixOS ☺️

will this replace my termius multi server ssh + tmux ? can we try? Will you make it windows compatible too?

Fresh does this - its File Explorer and all file reads and editing happens efficiently over the remote, fetching only the visible, loaded data instead of large files. It uses SSH as a transport channel, but runs its own protocol through it.

Which side owns the screen on reconnect client state sync or server pty replay?

Are you planning to implement port-forwarding to access e.g. webservers listening on remote servers?

@mitchellh when alpha access will be available?

what was the limitation that made you not go with ssh?

To be clear you can also use superlogical directly over ssh. There are a spectrum of options here. But by replacing SSH directly we get full pam-respecting authenticated/authorized logins with persistent sessions behind it. The transport is also way more resilient to bad internet connections and latency.

@demfabris has it been independently audited on, you know, security aspects? filling ssh boots is a bit of a tall order

@demfabris It will be but not yet since it’s not close to release yet. But check my background, I built some of the most security sensitive tooling out there, probably protecting a ton of your PII right now :)

@mitchellh At this point, looks like the shell is the only piece left to complete the stack 😄

really awesome

yeeeees, i can't await this!

When will this be released :) really digging the clean behavior and aesthetic
