Here’s your space weather report for the week of April 3 - 9: •7 M-class flares •1 M-class flares •16 coronal mass ejections •1 geomagnetic storm This video from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) shows the week’s activity. This week’s geomagnetic storm peaked on April 3, sparking auroras around the arctic circle and reaching a strength classification of G3 (strong). The cause was a CME that erupted from the Sun late on April 1. Aside from that, the Sun was fairly quiet during this reporting period. Learn more about space weather:

It was a fairly calm week on the Sun. A coronal mass ejection last week reached Earth on May 15, triggering a minor geomagnetic storm and leading to aurora sightings across the northern U.S. On May 20, SDO's Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) paused normal science operations for a series of routine calibration maneuvers — measurements that keep the instrument's magnetic field and Doppler velocity data scientifically accurate. 🇺🇸 FRIEDBERG: THREE MASSIVE SOLAR ERUPTIONS HIT EARTH IN A ROW THIS WEEK “There were three major coronal mass ejections that happened in a row. Two of them kind of combined and hit the Earth at the same time. And we had the highest level recorded geomagnetic storm, which was G5. Peskov stated that Russia had not received any official information from the US about the results of Ukraine's talks with European and American representatives in Geneva. "We do not know whether the head of the Kyiv regime will come to Washington, what exactly will be discussed, or what text has been drafted in Geneva. We do not have such information at this time," Peskov said. Note how he uses the phrase "head of the Kyiv regime" to talk about the President of Ukraine. This says volumes about Russia's intentions towards peace.

August 4: Warning Coordination Meteorologist Robbie Berg gives an update on what's going on in the tropics across the Atlantic, including Tropical Storm Dexter, a tropical wave moving off the coast of Africa, and another area of disturbed weather that NHC will be monitoring later this week off the southeastern coast of the United States. Monitor and for the latest tropical weather information.
