Codec Avatars can run on Quest 3 - the hardware is there. What’s missing is seamless face scanning and built-in eye & face tracking. Quest 4 will likely have eye tracking, and it may support codec avatars, but I really hope the lightweight headset in 2026 will do it first.

#Paper_Tracker We’ve been busy with the final rounds of sample iteration and validation before mass production, but took a little time to record the current tracking performance. This clip mainly shows the stability and accuracy of mouth tracking. In the next few days, we’ll also share a separate demo for eye and eyebrow tracking, including wide eyes, surprise, single-eyebrow raises, and frowning. Paper_Tracker uses a fully in-house workflow across hardware, algorithms, and software, allowing us to optimize the entire system together while keeping setup as simple as possible. No manually drawing ROIs. No tracking-region setup. No repeated calibration or parameter tweaking. Install it, put it on, and start using it. We’re still refining the production version and will continue sharing more real-world demos and development updates. Avatar addon used in this demo: 「しなの」(Shinano) Face Tracking Addon by Triturbo
