Am I seeing this wrong or did he stop the engine too? I always wonder what if the plane is going straight down like a screw, not like a spiral spin, would the opposite rudder work? It wouldn't! Because it's a straight nose dive and roll spin. Perhaps opposite aileron needed

On Sept. 3rd, 1955, at Chalgrove airfield, Oxfordshire, England, Squadron Leader J.S. Fifield carried out the world's first successful live ejection from an aircraft on the runway. Using a Martin-Baker Mark 3 fully automatic seat fitted with a Duplex drogue, an 80 ft per second ejection gun, and an accelerated parachute release, he ejected from a modified Gloster Meteor during takeoff. The seat provided a 35 ft clear drop before deploying a standard 24 ft Irvin parachute. This demonstrated the feasibility of zero-height, low-speed escapes, marking a major advance in ejection seat technology.

On November 21, 2021, a Cessna 172N was involved in an accident during a solo pattern flight at Old Bridge Airport in New Jersey. The student pilot had completed several takeoffs and landings with a flight instructor earlier that day and was cleared for solo operations. During a solo landing, the airplane bounced, and the pilot initiated a go-around. During the initial climb, the aircraft pitched up sharply, entered an aerodynamic stall, turned to the left, and descended to the ground. The airplane impacted the left side of the runway, sustained substantial damage, and a post-impact fire ensued. The student pilot sustained minor injuries. An inmate escaped his jail cell using a pencil to manipulate the door’s locking mechanism at a jail in Chesterfield, South Carolina, according to officials. Charles Alexander Dieterich then made his way through the kitchen and out an unlocked door before climbing a fence topped with barbed wire. He suffered cuts during the escape. Deputies tracked Dieterich down about 30 minutes later and took him back into custody. He was treated at a hospital for his injuries before being returned to jail.

Despite freezing temperatures, hurricane-force winds, and instrument failures, the crew kept control and safely landed in Chengdu. One of aviation’s most incredible saves.

Taroha has developed a new habit: he finishes his first milk bottle and puts it down normally. He finishes his second – and walks away with it clasped in his trunk. When a Keeper tries to get it back, he runs! His enthusiasm is the same as it was in May 2024 (listen for that rumble at the end!). Taroha came to us by way of a JCB bucket. He had been found alone on the shores of Lake Jipe and it was the only vehicle rescuers had access to at the time. By the time he arrived at our Nairobi Nursery, his journey had included an overnight stay at our Voi Unit and a flight aboard an aeroplane. But he was safe, and with his new family:

The wait was frustrating, but the delay had a silver lining , he got a front-row view of an F-16 blasting off while he was waiting. Not a bad way to spend the countdown to a first solo. NEW: A plane has landed itself using "Autoland" at the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport near Denver, becoming the first emergency autoland. According to the FAA, two people were on board when the pilot lost communication with air traffic control. The twin-engine Beechcraft Super King Air has Garmin's Autoland, which then kicked into action. Buffalo River Aviation says the aircraft "experienced a rapid, uncommanded loss of pressurization." The pilots put on oxygen masks and the Autoland system "automatically engaged" and started communicating with ATC, telling them it would be landing at the nearest airport. The system told ATC its aircraft number and "pilot incapacitation." The plane landed safely. No one was injured. Wild.
