If you actually listen & watch this, you should recognize that with a teacher/student ratio of 1:29, makes coping with students with ODD in a regular program- impossible. These Ss need specialized support & programming. Stop normalizing trauma in the classroom.

Adults can have ODD too. They often don’t receive help when offered to them.

Instead of these negative labels, how about asking the kids why they are upset? In my hypnosis practice, I have had younger clients given these labels none of them are truly applicable. Once we knew what the problem was and addressed it the negative behavior ceased.

I didn't even know ODD existed until I saw this. Can this happen with teens? What do you do if there's no diagnosis? And if there's no room for a safe space in class? I mean, you may them to another room with an adult but we know that's not always safe.

DENVER—A video is circulating of a bus driver that had to call the police to help her deal with a 6 year old student in 2020. The student went into a rage after getting into an altercation with another student on the bus. She then refused to get back into her ‘safety vest’ to continue the route. The mother claims the little girl has PTSD and ‘Oppositional Defiant Disorder.’ Oppositional Defiant Disorder is characterized as a pattern of angry/irritable mood, argumentative/defiant behavior, or vindictiveness towards peers, parents, teachers, and other authority figures. Basically a kid that timeouts aren’t working for. 🙄 The bus driver also claims the 6 year old girl called her the N word. The parents categorically deny this claim even though they weren’t there. You can also hear one of them tell the little girl under their breath, ‘you better not have dropped the N bomb!’ after denying it ever happened. Yikes! Is this bad parenting? Or bad bus driving? Let me know what you think.

Shoots 5 people on Christmas over an argument about a missing turkey leg. When impulse control fails chronically and causes significant harm, it may classify as an impulse control disorder. According to the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), these fall under "Disruptive, Impulse-Control, and Conduct Disorders." Common examples include: 1. Intermittent Explosive Disorder (unbridled violence): Sudden, disproportionate outbursts of anger or aggression. 2. Kleptomania (thieving): Irresistible urge to steal items not needed. Pyromania (setting fires): Compulsive fire-setting for relief or gratification. Oppositional Defiant Disorder or Conduct Disorder (inability to follow directions): Pattern of defiant, aggressive, or antisocial behavior. The situation can be compartmentalized as an impulse control problem, however, when used, it's often a defense which exonerates the perp of any long-term consequences. The 'sentence' many times involves mental health therapy, and a subsequent rapid release from custody.
