Terms were not as simple as you are trying to portray now. There are two types of college programs listed on immigration websites. One that promise a PR pathway through 2 years work permit after completion of their program. And there are courses that don’t promise that. Students in both cases pays money in the range of $40000 - $50000 for their courses. Those who opted for first type of courses, should not be denied what was promised. Those who opted for second ones, shall understand their mistakes and go back. Government instead of painting them all black shall make it clear in front of common people to avoid growing dissent amongst communities, that may lead to racial discrimination.

It's not like they are hiding... go get them and take them to the airport.

Canadians should get 1st priority of going to OUR schools, not immigrants. The system is broken when we don't accept Canadians 1st, and they get full scholarships to go to the USA.

As you well know, those international students have been subsidizing Canada’s under-funded post-secondary institutions for decades. If you want to support Alberta students, stop starving universities.

@SamBlackettAB As long as we also understand that domestic students are subsidized by international students. Without international students, post-secondary institutions will be coming to government asking to make up the shortfall.

The bigger problem now is who is going to enforce these rules if the students decide not to leave and enter the underground cash economy, which many already have. Stricter penalties on businesses who enable this are needed!

What a terrible thing to say. Our universities rely on international students because of your government underfunding PSE. They are welcome here and contribute here. Why shouldn’t we allow students to apply through other avenues to stay?!

Premier Smith, we knew our study permits were temporary. That was never the issue. Canada itself promoted the PGWP as a way for eligible graduates to gain Canadian work experience, which could lead to PR pathways. If the message had been “no PGWP, no pathway after graduation,” many of us would never have paid $30,000+ in tuition to enroll. We followed the rules. We’re asking Canada to follow them too. Changing the rules after students have already enrolled, paid tens of thousands, and graduated is not “respecting the rules.” It’s changing the deal after the price was paid.

Canadian education is standard is much worse than India and China . The only reason that students come to Canada from India to study is to build their life here in Canada and emigrate. It was normally happened for last 40 years . But now investors are running away from Canada and business sentiment is super negative for Canada due to bad policies, Canadian job market cannot absorb these students . There is no choice for these students except to leave

If we maintain the status quo this will be Canada in ten years.

"(Auditor General report, March 2026) For 2024: ~549,000 study permits expired. ~93% (~509,500) were allowed to remain (extensions, other temporary status, permanent residency applications, etc.). ~39,500 individuals had no remaining immigration status and were required to leave. CBSA confirmed departures for only ~40% (~16,000) of those 39,500. Roughly 23,500 from that year’s expired cohort were not confirmed as having left"

It is evident that "international students" n 99pc of cases are not here to study but to stay in Canada and gain Permanent Residency. The solution would be to ban the 3rd World students of coming to Canada and our universitirs can open overseas campuses in India and other 3td world countries, if they think that our education is so "superior". Ones they graduated, the "brightest of the brightest" can apply to immigrate to Canada and if qualified they could be approved. The automatic stay after graduation is not in Canada's interest!!!
