Aaron Webber invited Christian Whitehead to pitch the prototype that would become Sonic Mania to Takashi Iizuka. #SonicNews They initially thought Iizuka hated it, as he left the room for 10 minutes, before returning to write "Sonic Mania" on the white board. Mania was one of the first projects pitched to Iizuka when he moved to the US.

Years before Sonic Mania Adventures debuted, there had been an attempt to start an animated shorts initiative, but it didn't go anywhere because they were working on Sonic Boom. #SonicNews Chao were one of the characters they wanted to see in short form. Jasmine Hernandez didn't want that dream to die, so she kept pushing for them to be in shorts, which eventually led to Chao in Space and Chao Tales. Chao Tales had been pitched as a vertical video series, in a bid to reach new audiences.

The Sega Saturn never got its true 3D Sonic game. It was called Sonic X-treme. It had weird fisheye levels, a strange rotating world, and enough development chaos to become gaming folklore. Then it was cancelled. While Mario 64 became the future, Sonic’s big 3D moment disappeared into screenshots and prototypes.

Sooo... How's our port of Sonic Mania to the Sega Dreamcast coming along!? SHE'S ALMOST DONE! We're getting ready for release!!! As you can see from these direct hardware captures, the game looks and runs amazingly on the DC! Multiple beta testers have now cleared the game on both Mania and Encore modes! Jnmartin worked his butt off finishing up the remaining effects, Michael Fadely is working on the final bit of polish, such as making sure the menu button icons show Dreamcast controller graphics, and I just opened a PR to put the gameplay code on the latest SH4ZAM commit... STAND BY FOR THE BLUE BLUR'S EPIC RETURN TO THE SEGA DREAMCAST!
