@AthenaCNN There's no "literacy crisis" in my classroom! I'm so thankful for the science of reading and the things I've learned and applied with my 1st graders. I wish I had learned these things in college...instead, it was having a son diagnosed w/dyslexia that got me on the right track.

@AthenaCNN For a mom to hear a struggling reader grow more confident and say "I can't wait to start fourth grade." Well done Panther Valley ES principal and teachers!

@AthenaCNN After student receives new reading instruction “now I know how to sound it [the words] out”. That’s the issue. Students aren’t learning early literacy skills to decode and eventually develop into skilled readers. Disclaimer: It’s not just about teaching phonics.

@AthenaCNN What??? CNN reporting actual news?

@AthenaCNN Thx for covering this important issue! For parents who need help, contact your state Decoding Dyslexia chapter or your state literacy/reading coalition.

@AthenaCNN This was all by design, as the book Crimes of the Educators proved many years ago:

@AthenaCNN Thank you for highlighting this important literacy issue. Note: The Science of Reading is more than phonics. Consider a follow-up w/ some experts: @LouisaMoats @liv2learn @KJWinEducation @right2readproj #RightToRead #FAPE #Literacy #Reading #Read #SOR #ScienceofReading

@AthenaCNN Thank you CNN! I hope you will continue to follow up with the literacy crisis and what can and must be done so all children have the opportunity to become proficient readers!

@AthenaCNN Thank you for covering this very important issue!!! CA is still a "balanced literacy" state. Here are a few interesting articles...

@AthenaCNN Because their parents have CNN on.
