Police need to appear sober and responsible, observing crowds, respectfully keeping the peace. If officers take part in the event then they can’t be fully aware of any offences taking place around them or of anyone who might need assistance. If you need police, will you feel confident approaching a police officer who is dancing? In my opinion this doesn’t raise the respect level of police it only makes them look less irresponsible and less effective, diminishing the trust that law abiding members of the public have in them. Police are not there to join in the carnival. Am I right?
