Today, Stephen Bates has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 18 years after being found guilty of murdering Martin O’Donovan in April. On a night where Martin’s family were celebrating his mother’s 70th birthday, Bates was heavily intoxicated, and people intervened to prevent him from driving. Bates returned to the scene in his car, using it as a weapon to fatally injure 47-year-old Martin who was sitting outside the house. Martin was seriously injured after the car was driven at him on Stonyhurst Road. Emergency services attended the scene, and Martin was taken to hospital, but he sadly died from his injuries. The video footage shows Bates, 42, of Herondale Road, Mossley Hill, in his car moments before he murdered Martin, his 999 call to the police and his arrest. Following Bates’ sentencing, we are issuing the following words from Martin’s family, who describe him as a ā€œkind, intelligent, generous and deeply loved manā€ ā¤ļø "Martin was a kind, intelligent, generous and deeply loved man. A brother, son, uncle and friend whose warmth, humour and integrity touched everyone around him. His absence has left a hole in our lives that will never be filled. "The actions that took Martin from us were deliberate, senseless and cruel. Throughout this process, we have seen no sign of remorse from the defendant. No acknowledgment of the suffering caused or the life taken, and lives destroyed. That absence of humanity has compounded our grief and made this ordeal even harder to bear. "While today’s outcome brings a measure of accountability, it cannot bring justice in any true sense. There is no sentence long enough, no words strong enough, to balance the loss of Martin. We will carry his memory with us always, and our focus now is on honouring the life he lived rather than the manner in which it was taken. "We wish to thank the Merseyside Police, the prosecution team and all those who have supported us with professionalism and compassion through this difficult time.ā€ To read the full press release, visit the ā€˜news’ section of our website.

PokĆ©mon Horizons SPOILERS. ALL IMO-from a storytelling perspective.Bringing him back this early and essentially without any climax just destroys the entire dynamic and purpose of himā€œdyingā€in the first place. To the viewer(me)the drama of Cap screaming feels like it was for nothing,it feels like it was all essentially without consequence. It hasn’t been that many episodes that we’ve gotten to see how the characters reacted and grew due to Friede’s sacrifice-feels like they were just getting started. It was a driving plot point that could have built more character development and motivation that has now been cut short. There just wasn’t enough time in between everything. They just got the group back together(in the same episode lol). We haven’t seen Roy, in honor of Friede, truly become his spiritual successor and fully grow into the Friede role that they’re hinting at. The dynamics of taking down the explores in honor of Friede is now gone too. Also make it a shocking/mysterious return not just a recording/he’s alive and he’s been around for a whole year while we’ve been suffering, so let’s throw a party lol. He could have made a shocking big entrance saving the group out of no where much later on. Or there could have been one in the group that believed he was still alive and they were following clues to eventually find him and it shocks the rest of the group when they do. I’m sure that they will go on an adventure searching for him now and a lot of what I said above will happen anyway, but in a different way- I knew He would be back eventually and I know this was for the 100th episode, and most of all I know it’s a kids show…but IMO there was just a more impactful, epic, and better way to do it than this. Except for Orla… that was moving.

Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has vowed not to leave his Karen property, declaring that auctioneers attempting to take over the premises will have to ā€œkill him firstā€ before evicting him. Tuju, who was speaking at the disputed Dari Business Park, said he will remain at the property despite attempts by auctioneers to enforce a court-sanctioned recovery process over a multi-billion shilling debt. According to Tuju, individuals he identified as Mr. Chebet, Mr. Kiprono and Mr. Kiprop allegedly invaded the premises claiming they had purchased the property. However, he insisted the ownership dispute is still active in court and accused the trio of attempting to intimidate him. ā€œThey will have to kill me first and organise a big burial for me in Rarieda before they take this property,ā€ Tuju said defiantly. The former Cabinet Secretary further claimed that attempts to evict him from the property were part of a wider conspiracy meant to pressure and intimidate him amid the ongoing legal battle over the property. Tuju also linked the unfolding dispute to events earlier this week at the property, where several individuals were arrested. He alleged that Monday’s incident involved attempts to solicit a bribe connected to a judge handling matters in the Commercial Division of the High Court. According to Tuju, the people arrested included a former judge, a lawyer and a broker who had allegedly gone to his residence claiming to act on behalf of a judge. Tuju claimed the trio had approached him seeking money in exchange for influencing the outcome of matters related to the property dispute. The incident has added a dramatic twist to the long-running legal and financial battle surrounding the Karen property, which forms part of a dispute involving billions of shillings in debt. Despite the mounting pressure and legal proceedings, Tuju maintained that he will not vacate the premises, insisting that any attempts to forcefully remove him amount to harassment while the matter remains unresolved in court. The standoff at the Karen property continues to draw attention as the dispute over ownership and debt recovery plays out both in the courts and on the ground.

[WATCH] THE PRESIDENT WILL NOT RESIGN. When it comes to the President, there is always a distinctive role between him being the President of the party and the state. There are many factors that influence the state in terms of governance and stability. If the President is called upon by some to resign and he keeps quiet it can throw the state into a state of turmoil. I want to make it clear that the officials agreed with the President on his approach, he took us into confidence and explained the factors that led him to make that particular pronouncement. We believe that the President did the right thing in pronouncing in the best interest of South Africa that he will not be resigning. There was nothing in terms of the judgment that warranted the President to resign it was just mere calls made by individuals and political parties that wanted to throw our country into a state of turmoil, uncertainty and anxiety. So it was imperative that he focus on that. It was correct for him to tell the country that from where he is standing there is nothing in the judgement that states he has done any wrongdoing and what he is going to do with the options in front of him and he has made this public. The President will take the Section 89 Report on review based on the outcome of the judgment and the legal advice he has received. There are no daggers out for the President to resign just opportunistic elements. These elements do not know what they want, they want to impeach and want him to resign, they do know what they actually want. The veracity of the report has not been tested in any committee so they don’t have a basis for the President to resign.
