🚨ZUCK: "Probably in 2025, Meta, as well as other companies, will have an AI that can effectively be a mid-level engineer that you have at your company that can write code. In the beginning that will be very expensive to run, then at some point a lot of the code we have in our apps will be built by AI engineers instead of people engineers. In my opinion that will augment the people working on it. My view is that in the future people will be so much more creative and freed up to do crazy things."

"The one thing that's going to be truly future proof is judgment. What is the biggest challenge when you have a thousand AI engineers writing code? AI slop. In an era when you can do everything, the question is which of these things matter. On the engineer side, it is evaluating the code. Which of this code is even valuable? You can have AI engineers writing beautiful code that could be wrong, that could have bugs in it, that could be vulnerable. Someone needs to review it. Make sure to have a human review at some point, especially critical code that is in the core of your system. On the product side is judgment around what needs to be built and evaluating. And similarly in design, you have to have judgment around, does it make sense in the broader design system. I think this judgment is the number one thing that humans are going to bring in an era of infinite productivity."

Former Meta Engineer Explains Why He Sold All His Bitcoin Former Meta engineer TechLead has resurfaced after a period of silence, admitting he has liquidated his entire Bitcoin position. He argues that Bitcoin's core problem is that "attention is liquidity" — the NFT bubble proved that holding alone can't sustain a price, and the people who used to talk about Bitcoin have largely gone quiet. He believes AI has now absorbed nearly all of the market's attention, leaving little room for a fresh wave of buying anytime soon.Still, he says he remains bullish long-term and plans to buy back in at a lower price.

Brennan: "Do you agree with the president's order [to ban CNN, MS NOW, and Politico]?" Rep. María Elvira Salazar: "I think the president has a different type of style, but at the same time, I think that he is the most accessible president…So he may not be allowing some journalists to go into one place, but I'm sure that he's going to be talking to everybody at some point. That's his style. He's very accessible. Not like Biden." Brennan: "Doesn't that violate the spirit of the First Amendment?" Salazar: "I think that he has his own style and that he will determine who he wants to talk to."

Marc Andreessen: Elon inspires incredible loyalty from his employees because they know he'll just sit all night with them to fix a problem. “Elon actually delegates almost everything. He's involved in the thing that is the biggest problem right now until that thing is fixed. And then, he doesn't have to be involved in it anymore, he can go focus on the next thing that's the biggest problem for that company right now. The job number one is to remove that bottleneck and get everything flowing again. I think Elon basically has universalized that concept and he basically looks at every company like it's some sort of conceptual assembly line. When he identifies the bottleneck, he goes and he talks to the line engineers who understand the technical nature of the bottleneck. If it's people on a manufacturing line, he's talking to people directly on the line. Or if that's people in a software development group, he's talking to the people actually writing the code. He's not asking the VP of Engineering to ask the Director of Engineering to ask the manager to ask the individual contributor to write a report that's to be reviewed in three weeks. He doesn't do that. He would throw them all out of the window. There's just no way he would do that. He goes and personally finds the engineer who actually has the knowledge about the thing, and then he sits in the room with that engineer and fixes the problem with them. This is why he inspires such incredible loyalty, especially from the technical people who he works with. They're like, wow, if I'm up against a problem I don't know how to solve, freaking Elon Musk is going to show up in his Gulfstream jet, and he's going to sit with me overnight in front of the keyboard or in front of the manufacturing line, and he's going to help me figure this out.” Interview of Marc Andreessen 🇺🇸 by Chris Williamson on Youtube, December 14, 2024

Struggling engineers identify with the craft. Thriving engineers identify more with the impact. - Gergely Orosz on SWEs in the era of vibecoding: "At my brother's company, he mandated his team: everyone’s using Claude Code, everyone needs to do prompting, and you need to generate your code." "Around 50% of his team got really demotivated. One engineer quit and told him, 'I do not want to be a prompter, I love the craft.'" "For that engineer, code was his identity. He was the go-to guy and understood the codebase better than anyone. People used to go up to him asking, 'Hey, how does this work, etc.?' Now, no one walks up to him because the AI can answer it." "Builders who don't care about the tools that much are going to thrive. For people who care about the craft, there might be niches, but it'll be harder."

The CEO of Anthropic just said the thing that ends a lot of careers: "Software is going to become cheap, maybe essentially free." He's not talking about 2030, his engineers already told him they don't write code anymore. "It may just cost a few cents to build an app" He said. What everyone expects is already happening where it’s being built.

BROWDER: Putin doesn't have any Christian values or any values at all. Putin is a sociopath, a psychopathic dictator. All he cares about is his personal survival, his wealth, and few people around him. Right now, he's really angry that his troops have not made any progress. He's also really angry at the level of economic damage that Ukraine has caused him. Why did he bomb a sacred Ukrainian monument? For the same reason he's killing civilians and doing all those other things. He's got to do something to retaliate. He's got to show that he's more brutal and more awful than anyone could imagine. So he does something very noticeable, kind of like Taliban tearing down the old Buddhist structures in Afghanistan back in the day. This is the same type of thing, just to show how unbelievably psychopathic and brutal he is.
