Why even have schematic design? The project I’m working on is using SKiDL as the netlist generator, and I drop into PCB layout skipping the formal schematic step entirely. And since everything is data in the SKiDL layer, the AI can reason about that directly.

AI still has many detail issues when drawing complex schematics. A readable schematic is needed for human review—otherwise, a pure netlist can't be checked. Did you try PCB more than 2000 pins? Is that still work and correct without human review?

I'm still doing an absolute ton of reviews personally, so it's not completely AI. And layout (which also catches things) was entirely manual. The biggest win that I found was being able to quickly iterate on questions and design review questions. A typical workflow goes like: "check the connections of the ADC and cross-reference the datasheet to verify that everything in the reference ladder mux is correct." The schematic fundamentally still exists, but it's not in the KiCad (or whatever) format. The SKiDL is 100% isomorphic with with schematic capture, it's just not visual. It's the same as the software side for the same project (which is easier for me since that's my background). Heavy AI use, but I don't let it run wild. AI is great for some things, but I don't think it's a replacement for human judgement.

Experience and taste cannot be replaced easily. That said vllm.cpp is shaping up, do you want it to support your new Infer Box from day 0? @mudler_it has experience with DGX Spark and contributions are welcome.

Tried AI-assisted schematic capture yet? The tech works seamlessly for traces, but the architecture... let's just say some things are better left un-disrupted. 😅

We have put 1K+ opensource pcb project for AI learning, it is better than me now...

@SipeedLab Better at routing, maybe. But when parts hit supply chain dead ends, I'm the one making vendor calls at midnight. Not AI. 😅

My experiments with Kicad and codex and claude earlier this year were not very successful. It's the one time I was surprised by how poorly it performed. But that was with early 2026 models and very simplistic prompting. Maybe worth another shot.

The best I've managed with ai so far is using kicad and konnect MCP. Do you know a better way for AI to create and iterate on a design?

This was generated by KiCAD and MCP services on my computer. It's a very simple circuit, but the results don't seem to be very good.

Software is a little cheaper/faster to iterate mistakes on than hardware (for now) so it would still be worth running your design past an EE until our AI overlords take over fully.
