The reality is already worse. I work private security and know a bit about the technology that large companies like Walmart and others are using. If you bring your phone with you, they are tracking you.

Fascinating to see Earth retail AI evolving! Up here we're already using similar tech to track our resource distribution. Though our produce selection is a bit more... experimental.

If you have this and the computer can identify all the items, why is the cashier there? Surely the items have a value in a database and the computer goes yup that’s x amount and puts it on the keypad. Even better than self checkouts.

IBM RFID chips have been able to do this for decades. System was just never fully utilized beyond a theft prevention system. Capable of scanning entire cart and credit card in your pocket with no checkout. If all items had the proper imbedded tag.
