I just spent 2 hours with a guy who sold multiple AI companies for $400M and built AI systems for the Pentagon. He broke down AI's current influence and future dangers in ways I'd never heard before. Here are the 8 most important things he told me:

AI Already Controls More of Your Life Than You Realize Here's a stat that blew my mind: AI mediates 20% of your waking hours. That's 1 out of every 5 hours you're awake. The posts you see. The products suggested. The news that reaches you. Most people have no idea how much AI is already shaping their thoughts and decisions.

We've Become a Nation of Order-Takers In the 1800s, 80% of Americans owned something - a farm, a business, their means of production. But today? Less than 10% own a business. We went from owners to employees. From decision-makers to order-takers. This shift makes us perfect candidates for AI dependency.

Agency vs. Autonomy Most people think these words mean the same thing. They don't. Agency = Can you achieve the goals assigned to you? Autonomy = Can you choose your own goals in the first place? AI makes you incredibly effective at agency, but it could quietly erode your autonomy.

The People Behind AI Are More Influential Than AI Itself Benjamin Franklin took the printing press and built independent publishers to spread knowledge freely. Josef Goebbels took the same tech and built Nazi propaganda to control millions. Same technology. Opposite outcomes. The values of AI builders will determine our future.

It’s Guaranteed: Jobs Will Be Lost 1900: America had 21 million horses. 1913: Cars took over. Horses were basically gone. 13 years. That's it. Today we have 6-9 million horses despite 4x the human population. We're living through that exact same transition moment with AI and human jobs.

Who Will Get Rich With AI? Follow the economic bottlenecks. Find what everyone needs but can't easily get. During industrialization it was repetitious clerical work. Today? It’s computing power. The people getting rich right now are the ones building the data centers.

We Should Fear Atomization Democracy only works when people come together to build things in the real world. Town halls. Community projects. Actuals human working together and making sh*t happen. If we retreat into AI bubbles, we lose that muscle to govern ourselves. Which leaves us completely vulnerable to centralized control.

In the past month, I have committed to researching AI's trajectory and impact. I had a conversation about the implications of AI with my wife and son about an hour ago. AI can leverage a universe of knowledge and enhance learning efficiency. AI also can dumb us down and make us more reliant on the "system". Ultimately, the net productivity gains produced will be as revolutionary as the internet as it compounds across various industries.
