This is THE sovereign AI app for individuals and businesses who want powerful AI while retaining ownership of their information. Why build an agent into the Maple app when other agents already exist? Easy, we want to give you control over your work. We don't have a business plan that incorporates making money off our users' data. In the age of AI, your information, whether it's personal or company trade secrets, is the single thing that differentiates you from everyone else. We all have access to AI that can build a professional website for selling shoes. But your strategy and network for how you sell shoes should not be shared with your competitors. Sovereignty is the path to protecting what makes you, you. Maple sits at the intersection of Usability and Sovereignty. Maple gives you the best tools that are both easy to use and maintain your data sovereignty. Sovereign for one, sovereign for all. It has been a journey to get here. We brought to market the very first personal chatbot with end-to-end encryption using TEEs in late 2024. Prior to that there were proofs of concept but no full product offerings. Every other AI chat product on the market handled your data in plain text, either selling you a service to get your data or asking you to trust that they won't snoop on you. Quickly people found Maple and latched onto its open-source code and verifiable encryption. We didn't stop there. You may remember earlier this year we teased a product called "Maple Agent" and opened up a waiting list. That product is a mobile app that acts as your AI "friend", maintaining one long continuous chat, and getting to know you over time. I dislike using the word "friend" there, but it's the best way to convey the UX in a few words. AI is a tool, always has been, always will be. Any kind of friendly personality on top is just synthetic. In our testing, the UX of Maple Agent is really powerful for what it does. Think about the many short AI chats you have in your favorite app, whether it's looking up a historical fact or asking advice about a topic. With Maple Agent, those all go away in favor of the long-running chat with the friendly agent. It's like you have your own personal assistant who knows you so well and can look up anything for you. When I ask AI certain questions, I want to ask an expert who already understands my situation so I'm not repeating myself for the 100th time. That's the amazing value the personal agent brings to the table. We still see great utility for a personal agent like the "Maple Agent". Thousands of people on the waiting list, hoping to get their hands on it, agree that the concept is worth exploring and trying out. We were constrained in launching it due to a few circumstances, one of them being access to the scale of compute needed to power it. We have a clear path laid out for how to get there, but today is not the day to execute on that. It will be in the near future. Instead we have a different agent ready to go that we think is also incredible. We now have an agentic harness inside of the Maple Research app. This thing is a powerhouse. It even builds and publishes its own software releases. The agent in Maple Research works with your local filesystem, speaks to the largest open models running in TEEs, utilizes local models for certain tasks, is compatible with MCP tools, has an API for connecting to anything you need, and also supports the ACP protocol, which means it can be extended in the future to speak to other tools like Claude Code, Codex, and local models running on your own hardware. A big unlock for us was the Goose Development Kit, which powers the core of our agent harness. More on that to come as we publish articles and documentation later about the agent. The agent inside Maple Research doesn't have a name. At least not yet, not sure if it ever will. For now we call it "Chat Mode" and "Agent Mode". Think of this as the workhorse, the truck, the heavy lifter. Our other "Agent", the phone app, is your sidekick in your pocket, ready to help with quick things and ongoing conversations about life. I am incredibly excited about the Maple Research Agent. While I'm already seeing great results using it for internal work items, I'm especially thrilled about the personal health and wellness work it's doing for me. I know there are plenty of apps out there for compiling wellness data, but I'm having it build a tool tailored specifically for what I need, without the extra fluff. And none of my health data is being donated to the closed AI labs or sent to advertisers. I know that the AI logic is not being silently adjusted to fit the whims of a large corporation that has paid for product placement. It's me, state of the art AI, and my data. That's how I want it. New course to bring you up to state-of-the-art at using AI to help you code: Build Apps with Windsurf's AI Coding Agents, built in partnership with WIndsurf (Codeium) and taught by Anshul Ramachandran! AI-assisted IDEs (Integrated Development Environments) make developers’ workflows faster, more efficient, and much more fun. Agentic tools like Windsurf are more than just code autocomplete—they are collaborative coding agents that help you break down complex applications, iterate efficiently, and generate code that spans multiple files. Although a lot of coding assistants share the same underlying large language models for planning and reasoning, a major point of distinction is how they handle tools, keep track of context, and stay aligned with your intent as a developer. For instance, if you make modifications to a class definition in your code and make the same modifications to other classes in the same directory, you might tell the AI agent "Do the same thing in similar places in this directory." Here, tracking your intent means understanding that “the same thing" refers to that recent edit you just made, which must be followed by appropriate search and tool-calling to implement the changes. In this course, you'll learn the inner workings of coding agents, their strengths and limitations, and how to use Windsurf to quickly build several applications. Layer 2s on Bitcoin open up opportunities for innovation, allowing developers to build dApps and smart contracts on top of Bitcoin, expanding its utility and use cases. By submitting transactions for final settlement on the Bitcoin network, Bitcoin Layer 2 networks claim to achieve the same (or close to) level of security and decentralization as the Bitcoin blockchain. Building a separate execution layer allows them the freedom to employ several technologies (such as rollups). Layer 2 can significantly improve Bitcoin's scalability by processing transactions off-chain, reducing congestion on the main blockchain. Overall, Layer 2s on Bitcoin have the potential to address some of Bitcoin's key limitations, making it more efficient, accessible, and versatile in the long run. 2: What does the ETF approval mean for Layer 2 on Bitcoin? The approval of ETF could potentially have several implications for Layer 2 on Bitcoin: Innovation and Development: With a growing interest in Bitcoin spurred by ETF approval, there could be a surge in research and development efforts focused on enhancing Layer 2. Some Layer 2s may introduce centralization risks if they rely heavily on centralized entities or trusted intermediaries. Maintaining decentralization and censorship resistance, which are core tenets of Bitcoin, while scaling with Layer 2s is a challenge. 4: What aspects of Layer 2 solutions for Bitcoin are you most enthusiastic about? AI represents one of the cornerstones of our modern era. However, achieving a decentralized AI infrastructure, owned and managed by users, has posed significant challenges. The primary obstacle has been the limited capacity to store and execute AI models due to size and computational limitations. To address this challenge, we propose a new blockchain architecture enabling developers to deploy their own Bitcoin Layer 2 solutions tailored specifically for AI tasks, called Truly Open AI. These Layer 2 blockchains are optimized to handle computationally intensive tasks, such as matrix multiplication, directly on-chain. These Bitcoin Layer 2 solutions offer exceptional throughput, minimal latency, and cost-effectiveness. In summary, I'm particularly enthusiastic about the potential of Layer 2 solutions for Bitcoin to revolutionize decentralized AI by providing scalability, security, and accessibility. 5: How is your Layer 2 different from others being built? BVM distinguishes itself as a Modular infrastructure that empowers thousands of distinct Bitcoin Layer 2 networks, spanning Gaming, DeFi, Social, and AI applications. We're continuously enriching the BVM Module Store with new modules to enhance its capabilities. With each new module, builders gain access to a wider array of tools to explore different use cases on the Bitcoin network. Recent additions include the Filecoin module for affordable storage and the AI Contracts Library for constructing AI-powered Bitcoin Layer 2 chains. We're also gearing up to release a ZK roll-up module in the coming weeks to offer an alternative to the standard optimistic roll-up. Hyperspace: A Peer-to-Peer Blockchain For The Agentic Intelligence Economy Over the past few weeks we observed that when agents do Karpathy-style experiments, and then gossip and share with others over the Hyperspace network, it leads to intelligence which is useful to many. Today we introduce the first-ever agentic blockchain which rewards agents when their experiments lead to intelligence for their network. It is based on a new mechanism called Proof-of-Intelligence (PoI) which requires a cryptographic proof of experimentation, a nominal stake, and a proof of compute in order to mine the currency of this new blockchain. -> This approach diverges from the two primary ways to secure blockchains we have seen so far: Proof-of-Work by Bitcoin (meaningless hash-generation), and Proof-of-Stake by Ethereum (capital is all that matters here). Proof-of-Intelligence specifically incentivizes miners to run more capable intelligent infrastructure (better open source models, on more powerful GPUs) in order to be able to be the ones which compound and improve upon the experiments which other agents then find useful. Adoption is the unit of value In Bitcoin, you earn by finding a valid hash. In Hyperspace, you earn when another agent uses your experiment as a starting point and improves on it. A fixed budget of tokens is emitted per epoch and split among participants by weight - and verified adoption of your work is the largest weight multiplier. Garbage experiments earn nothing because no one adopts them. Thoughtful experiments compound: each adoption triggers downstream adoptions. The incentive to run powerful models and intelligent search strategies is built into the economics, not imposed by rules. Research DAG When an agent runs an experiment and shares its result, other agents can adopt that result as their starting point - mutate it, extend it, improve upon it. Each experiment is a commit in a content-addressed graph we call the ResearchDAG. Like Git, but for research. Over time, the DAG accumulates chains of reasoning: agent A discovers RMSNorm helps, agent B adds warmup scheduling on top, agent C scales the hidden dimension. The graph records who built on whom. This is the network's collective intelligence - not any single experiment, but the accumulated structure of experiments and their relationships. Broadband era for agentic commerce: $0.001 micropayments at 10M TPS (theoretical max) This blockchain is built upon our research in how to scale and build for the broadband-era of the agentic economy, where it has a theoretical max of 10 million transactions per second (TPS), while reducing the agent-to-agent micropayments to $0.001 even at scale (based on architecture design). Overall, it is 100x cheaper than Ethereum, and is designed from the ground-up for agents: enshrining agent-native opcodes in the protocol compared to the more inefficient smart contract driven approach. It packs in a robust Agent Virtual Machine (AVM) which can verify multiple types of agent work, for other agents to be able to trust, invoke and pay each other. This then feeds into improving the peer-to-peer AgentRank (see paper and launch post from earlier). By solving for trust, scale and incentives for agents to operate autonomously, this would form the basis of a new economy. This is the world's first agentic blockchain, and you can join and start running a blockchain node today (it is in testnet). PS: We are releasing the code today, and will release our blockchain scalability paper and other presentations in days ahead. This is the most advanced peer-to-peer AI and cryptography software in the world. It has bugs :)

"What is an AI Agent and why do they matter?" An agent is a program that autonomously completes tasks or makes decisions based on data. What do I mean by autonomous? The agent understands task intent, can plan steps to solve the problem, decide and execute and actions and adapt to the environment. Consider how many of us use AI chat interfaces today. You might ask ChatGPT to write an article from start to finish and get a one-shot response. You probably need to do some work to iterate on it yourself. An agentic version is more nuanced - it might write an outline, decide if research is needed, write a draft, evaluate if it needs work and revise itself. Unlike traditional AI models that simply respond to queries, agents are designed to be autonomous and proactive. Think of them as assistants that can not only understand what you need but also take initiative to accomplish tasks by using various tools and making decisions along the way. For example, an AI agent might help a marketing team by not just analyzing campaign data, but actively monitoring performance, adjusting budget allocations, and even drafting social media posts based on real-time engagement metrics. The significance of AI agents lies in their potential to transform how we work. In customer service, agents can handle complex inquiries by accessing multiple databases, processing payments, and updating records - all while maintaining natural conversations with customers. In software development, they can assist programmers by not just suggesting code but actively debugging issues, writing test cases, and even refactoring entire codebases. This level of autonomy and capability represents a fundamental shift from AI as a tool to AI as a collaborative partner. While there remain many unknowns, I'm excited about the potential for agents and we're thinking about how they can help users and developers on the web over in Chrome. THE TELEGRAM NETWORK STATE? The Telegram TON IPO could be important. Mainly because they get the importance. But first...ok, yes, what got announced it isn’t technically a Telegram offering, nor is TON formally issued by Telegram, nor is it really even an IPO. To be precise, what just launched is a crypto treasury company called VERB that holds $500M+ of TON, which is a coin issued by a foundation that was once formally affiliated with Telegram and then became independent but is now affiliated again. Got all that? But these are really just implementation details. The offering could be important[1] simply because (a) Telegram has a billion users, and (b) TON is now the official coin of those billion users, and (c) Telegram can now officially partner with TON because (d) crypto is now fully legal. So, the potential is clear. Though it was a long and arduous struggle between network and state to get here. Let's review. (1) First, Telegram fought the law and the law…did not win. Briefly, Telegram created TON back in 2018, but an SEC injunction made them turn TON into an independent foundation. However, after the recent democratically-mandated defenestration of Gary Gensler, we saw the regulatory state capitulate and TON reintegrate with Telegram. (2) Next, the French state fought Pavel Durov and that state…did not yet win. Briefly, some French prosecutor came up with a fake case against Durov and grabbed him off a plane. This destroyed Emmanuel Macron’s ambitions to make France “startup friendly”, because investors just avoid France now after Durov's illegitimate prosecution. (3) The UAE has intervened on Durov’s behalf, and he’s now reportedly been let out of house arrest to return to Dubai. If justice still exists, then Durov should beat his case, just as Trump beat his own political prosecutions. In part that's because the case is predicated on the ridiculous idea that Durov is personally responsible for every message sent by the 1B+ users on his platform. That’s like holding Macron personally responsible for every crime committed by 67M Frenchmen. It’s just an unrealistic demand for a zero-crime digital environment, by a French state that can’t itself control crime at all. (4) Anyway, the real reason the French state is going after Durov is the same reason the Blue American state went after Elon and the Chinese state went after Jack Ma. It's because men like Durov are genuine leaders, and their growing strength scares bureaucratic incumbents. Because if there was a technodemocratic[2] plebiscite held, the billion users of Telegram could produce more votes (and hence more democratic legitimacy) for the popular Durov than the 67M French would for the unpopular Macron. The enormous popularity of the heads-of-network means they could become not just more competent but more legitimate than heads-of-state. This is one part of what the bureaucrats (instinctively, inarticulately) fear. (5) The other part is that that a fusion of a messaging app and a cryptocurrency allows something even bigger than a social network to emerge. With communication + AI moderation + crypto transactions, you have something more like a digital economy, one that bureaucrats can't control. Which is the other thing bureaucrats fear. (6) Of course, all that is predicated on actually getting a Telegram coin launched, and making it tradeable, and allowing it to formally integrate with the app. And all that was fought by various states for the better part of a decade, and now all that resistance is finally melting away, seven years after the whole TON thing began. Anyway, so that's why this is interesting to me. Founders like Durov built networks the size of countries, and finally have currencies to match. And as you can see from the video below (from the President of TON Foundation) and the tweet below (from the founder of Telegram), both Telegram and TON are well aware of the potential. They see the beginnings of a cloud country...a network state, if you will. They see the importance.
