A JetBlue pilot reported a close call while landing at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after spotting a smaller plane flying erratically nearby, according to air traffic control audio. A few moments later, the air traffic controller coordinating traffic in the area called the small plane pilot "Mad Max," adding, "That guy's insane."

Daniels also told Tony Dokoupil that “it is not uncommon to routinely combine…positions,” as there is currently a controller shortage in the U.S.
