Like so many of us in San Francisco I pay thousands in rent every month. An with that comes a social contract that I should be able to walk down the street and not step on feces or a needle or step over someone using drugs. There's a cost to all of that too. 🧵

So according to Juliass, you are a good white person if you are willing to give up some of your possessions to black people. But if you don't then there will be anarchy. I have got a better idea. Go to school. Study hard. Be decent and trustworthy. Get a part time job. Study hard. Choose a career. Get trained in that career. Study Hard. Work Hard. Don't have kids that you can not afford. Find a decent girl. Get married. Work Hard. Save Money. Buy a small house or flat. Work Hard. Be decent. Have a child when you can afford it. Work Hard. Study hard and further your career. Repeat, just keep the same girl, or get rid of her if she is an impediment to the above. This is wealth. Wealth is created. THAT IS HOW YOU GET POSESSIONS. A generation did everything they were told to do. Go to school. Get a good job. Work hard. Now even people in the trades making decent money are moving back in with their parents because home ownership is completely out of reach in Canada. This is no longer a “young people just need to work harder” problem. The social contract is breaking in real time.

Weingarten: It’s really only the Congress that can abolish the Department of Education. So, what the president can do is make government basically ineffective—not work—by a thousand cuts. And that’s what they’re doing. So, if you essentially fire the entire staff, or 80% of the staff, of Social Security, and somebody needs to get a Social Security card, they’re not going to be able to get it in a timely way. If you fire everybody who’s doing hurricane watch, you’re not going to have hurricane watch… The same is true in terms of education. If you fire everybody, or you make it unfeasible for it to work, then none of the laws that are supposed to be effectuated by the department will work. So, if Title I is supposed to go to a high school in Staten Island, and they’re supposed to get $5 million that goes there, and all of a sudden it doesn’t, and they don’t have the money, then that means the programs go away. That means the reading programs, the computer programs, the after-school programs—all the programs that are funded by Title I, and every schoolteacher in America understands what that means—they go away. The same goes for the programs for kids with disabilities under IDEA. If a school system, or a school—because these things go directly to schools—if the funding goes away, a kid doesn’t get physical therapy or occupational therapy

A Social contract between a population of people & it’s Government is NOT supposed to be a suicide pact. If a government breaches the social contract by becoming tyrannical or if they fail to protect its citizens & their rights, then the citizens have every right to end this abusive & dangerous contract, overthrow their governments & install a new government of their choosing. Governments only hold power because WE THE PEOPLE give them power.

Social can mean that it’s ‘good for society’ or it can mean that it’s ‘good as seen by society’. In the second meaning, you often end up with something that many people are doing.” He gives education startups as an example of a social startup - it’s seen as objectively good and lots of people are working on it. Thiel contrasts this to a mission-oriented company: “A mission-oriented company is one where if you didn’t work on this problem, nobody would.” He gives the example of Elon Musk starting SpaceX with the mission of going to Mars and making humans interplanetary. If Elon wasn’t working on it, this problem might not get solved.
