It disrupted the idea of who TV is “for”? Television is a cultural mirror it reflects who counts and who is seen. In the case of DTV, it didn’t just reflect. It expanded the mirror. It created a televisual space where South African deaf youth could see themselves, not as a “special insert” or an afterthought but as protagonists of their own media landscape. IMO true impact comes when TV doesn’t just include diverse audiences, but reimagines its very centre around them.
