#WATCH | Kathmandu, Nepal: On Nepal formally approaching UN-backed Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD) for urgent support, with recovery costs estimated in the range of $4–7 billion, Nepal Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal says, "Paris Agreement and Loss & Damage Fund are part of broader global agreements. We hope to see global community coming together to strengthen the fund. But as of today, we all know the funds have not been adequate. In global platforms, we continue to champion for the funds to be made adequate and community of the world should come together to strengthen that intiative. For this particular purpose, we have already initiated to seek some fund of about 20 million dollars right now. But that is significantly less than what we would need for rehabilitation and reconstruction effort. Currently we are doing a rapid assessment and then we will do post-disaster need assessment which will take a few weeks...We do feel that actual cost may be in billions. We would need the support of global community at this point." He further says, "The fund is extremely inadequate and we want global community to support and strengthen that mechanism, having a global mechanism would support all of us in our time of need..."

In my public television special “The Story of Fascism in Europe,” we learn from Europeans whose families lived through fascism that a strong democracy requires vigilant and engaged citizens. We are all participants, we are all responsible, and freedom isn’t guaranteed. That lesson feels especially urgent today, as we watch extremist forces dismantle protections for immigrants, people living in poverty, and marginalized communities. They're counting on us to be intimidated and to stay quiet — but social justice organizations, such as Sojourners, refuse to be silent. For years, Sojourners has been doing the essential work of rooting Christianity not in nationalism, but in social justice, by equipping congregations with tools to bring clarity where there's confusion, hope where there's despair, and love where there's fear. Like Sojourners, I see Christian nationalism as a perversion of my faith. "If we can create a society which sees the child within every adult – and the adult within every child - we will finally start to change it for the better." We want to make the link between the skills we develop in early childhood and the core foundations that set us up for life and help us to thrive as adults. To help give social and emotional skills the greater priority they deserve, The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood has conducted a first-of-its-kind global listening exercise, involving experts from 21 countries around the world, to catalogue and identify the skills in this area that matter most throughout our lives. The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood has undertaken work to find a common bridge and set of core skills that can apply equally to children and adults, so we can bring people together with a common language and vision to drive action at every level – protecting and strengthening these skills for current and future generations across the whole of society. Through this exercise we found consensus around a set of skills that we develop and nurture during early childhood, but that continue to be enhanced and refined as we grow into adults. They relate to knowing ourselves, managing our emotions, focusing our thoughts, communicating with others, nurturing our relationships, and exploring the world. These are the skills that lay the foundations for our positive future mental health and resilience throughout our lives. Healthy development of these core skills is not inevitable – they must be nurtured from our earliest moments of life. The foundations for these skills are laid in early childhood, between pregnancy and the age of five, which is why those earliest years represent such a golden opportunity to make a difference right from the start. Far too many children are being left without the support they need to find their voice, build confidence, and reach their full potential. This is not just an educational issue, it’s about fairness, opportunity, and giving every child the best possible start in life. Mikey’s determination and courage continue to inspire me, and I am grateful to Chris Kamara for helping shine a national spotlight on this vital cause. Let me be absolutely clear: I will not stop fighting for the resources our schools and children deserve. Every child should have access to the support they need to succeed, and I will keep pushing until that becomes a reality.

To our friends in the Jewish community of Manitoba and around the world, we stand with you in the face of the terrible attack at Bondi Beach, and we join you in mourning the lives that were lost. Here in Manitoba, we know we have to do more than just offer words of support. We need action. That’s why we’ve added mandatory Holocaust education to our school curriculum, so future generations understand hatred and why we must unite against it. We’ve also strengthened how hate crimes are prosecuted, with a dedicated hate-crimes prosecutor and enhanced training delivered in the days leading up to this attack. Through these actions, and the work still ahead, we will continue to be there for the Jewish community and for all Manitobans. We are one province. Let’s keep building it up together.

This event would not have been possible without the love and effort of so many incredible people, and we would like to take this moment to express our deepest gratitude. First and foremost, to our MikBrent Global Family, thank you for organizing this very special screening and for thoughtfully preparing all the amazing freebies for our attendees. Your love traveled from different parts of the world just to be felt here, and it is truly something we will never take for granted. Throughout the past several days the SMPD and our mutual aid partners have contacted hundreds of people on foot or in cars and we have arrested individuals in our evacuation and evacuation warning zones that were in possession of weapons, stolen property or wanted for serious felony crimes in our region. To those considering coming to our city to commit crimes or victimize our residents, your actions will not be tolerated and we will not allow you to prey on our residents during a time of crisis. Day and night, we remain dedicated to ensuring the security of your homes and loved ones. Our team is proactively monitoring the evacuation zone, and all sworn officers have transitioned to a tactical alert, ensuring that we have a full contingent of officers available 24 hours a day. During this period we received assistance from our mutual aid partner cities, special thanks to Culver City, Beverly Hills, UCLA, Hawthorne and Redondo Beach. These resources have been a crucial part of our proactive public safety efforts. We are steadfast in our commitment to respond swiftly to any needs that arise. Safety is a partnership between the police and the community—it is also our strongest weapon as we fight crime. We need everyone to follow the curfew orders, the curfew order for the evacuation zone is in effect from sunset to sunrise.
