Former Navy SEAL Details First Autonomous Rescue Mission Near the Strait of Hormuz Saronic CEO Dino Mavrookas: “The Navy actually trusted us in this moment. Lives are on the line, we're going to send this autonomous platform to go and rescue these folks. This is not a patrol, this is not maritime domain awareness, this is the highest stakes of the highest stakes. There's downed American pilots in the Straits of Hormuz. Corsair, which is our 24 foot fully autonomous speedboat, they said, ‘We're going to use that to rescue the pilots.’ And that's actually a milestone moment for the country. Leaving people behind in the US military, it's not a thing. The US military does not do it. I was in the Navy SEAL teams for eleven years, from 2004 to 2015. I personally experienced, in 2005, there were four SEALs trapped on a mountainside in Afghanistan, and the helicopter got shot down while going to rescue them. So what we were able to prove in this moment was that you can go and rescue people without putting additional soldiers in harm's way.” Dino Mavrookas Saronic ------------------------------ Thanks to our partners for making this possible! Saronic CTO: The Massive Advantage of Unmanned Warships @jason: “If these are autonomous ships, well, you can remove things. I don't know what percentage of a Corsair or a battleship are there to support humans on the ship, but I gotta think it's half the mass of it, is to keep humans on it. Am I directionally correct?” Saronic CTO Vib Altekar (vib): “Half is a little excessive, but there is a significant percentage of the components, the cost, the labor that actually goes into catering to human beings on board. I would say at a high level, you're really reducing the complexity of the entire product, right? You don't need to worry about a separate electrical system for humans. You don't need to worry about, as we mentioned, doors, bathrooms, stairs, et cetera. And then at the end of the day, you can actually start to end-to-end optimize a lot of different things. So even if you look at Corsair, for example, you know, if you were to buy a commercial 24 foot boat, it's unlikely to go 1000 nautical miles. It's also unlikely to drive and have the control authority of the boat that we've built here. Because you don't have to worry about a person taking shock loads in the middle of the ocean. So you can actually optimize across a bunch of different areas, naval architecture, the speed, range, and payload of the craft itself. And then again, reduce a lot of the complexity where you're removing subsystems that are meant for humans.” ------------------------------ Thanks to our partners for making this possible! Eric Weinstein: ROI Obsession and Consensus Are Killing American Science david friedberg: “Treat scientists like the rock stars that they should be. Otherwise, you're going to lose them?” Eric Weinstein: “When you have administrator types come in and say, ‘What we need is KPIs. I'm data-driven. I want to know what the translation is.’ Do you even know what ROI is, or is it just what you can measure? You want these people on retainer, so whenever you have a real problem, you call up the most terrifying intellects you can imagine, and we can get to work and we can solve your problems. If you tell me, ‘You should work on this because this thing is what drives the ROI,’ my feeling is, do you just not understand science? Do you imagine that your technology mindset is the same thing as my scientific mindset? You want to get paid. I’ve spent a lot of time in Silicon Valley. I'm not nearly as interested in having a new McLaren as whether my name is going to be discussed 10,000 years from now if humans are still around. We're in some sort of crazy world in which people who have radical ideas can't do the radical ideas inside of the institutions. When people say something different, do you force them back into this consensus? Well, that's what p*ssy nations do. And we have become a p*ssy nation when it comes to science.” ------------------------------ Thanks to our partners for making this possible! As wealth grows, complexity compounds. Eric Weinstein's Theory on Aliens: Nukes May Have Alerted Something Else to Our Existence david friedberg: “What do you think, today, UAPs are?” Eric Weinstein: “The scenario to worry about is North Sentinel Island. Everybody who lives in North Sentinel Island is considered a citizen of India, and they don't know the word Indian. They're an uncontacted people who don't know that they're part of something larger that watches them, that does not allow people to land. But if they started sending out radio signals, and then they started letting off nukes on that tiny little island, India would not have this paternalistic attitude towards its primitive tribe. So my concern is that when we let off a nuke in 1945, or when Italy became very good at quantum theory, somehow UAPs are very tied to nukes. And I believe that a nuke is the sign that you become advanced enough that the next thing you figure out how to do is to leave and traverse through propulsion. We alerted whatever India is in this analogy, and I believe that there are other life forms in the universe and that they can come and they can visit, and I don't think that that's preposterous. I think that we are an uncontacted people.” ------------------------------ Thanks to our partners for making this possible! As wealth grows, complexity compounds. Mark Cuban: “A lot of data centers will be turned into pickleball courts.” Mark Cuban: “What's happening now is the market leaders, Google, Meta. etc, they're borrowing hundreds of billions of dollars. And there's already a private credit problem right now. Just layer on private credit, and then you have these huge companies that have cash flow, but they're spending all their cash flow on CapEx, and then they're borrowing on top of that. That's planning for perfection. And that's going to be hard. And we're building these data centers, and if there's a price-performance curve on AI that minimizes the power requirements, there's going to be a lot of data centers that are going to be turned into pickleball courts. Everybody thinks that there's going to be so much more utilization. And there will be. It'll just scale like everybody expects. But there's going to be technological breakthroughs as well. Just like we saw fiber back in the day, it was all about putting in fiber. Then it went from 1GB fiber, to 10GB, to 100GB, and then there wasn't a fiber problem anymore. There wasn't a bandwidth problem anymore.” @jason: “It was quite the opposite. We had dark fiber that people bought for pennies on the dollar.” Cuban: “Just sitting there, right? And how is it not going to be the case that we don't get the same price performance improvements on the AI side and on the data center side?” ------------------------------ Thanks to our partners for making this possible!
