It isn't that difficult. Quebec keeps domestic hydro rates artificially low through Hydro-Québec, which slashes its measured fiscal capacity and inflates its equalization payments by billions Meanwhile, Duncombe omits that Quebec deliberately suppresses other resource development (oil/gas exploration limits, etc.), further reducing its own-source revenues—yet provinces like Alberta get full clawbacks for actually developing theirs. Quebec polls show that they are open to both resource development and pipelines Conveniently omitting that crucial detail from the national broadcast is once again giving Alberta separatists ammunition. And I would say, now is the time to work together. Why don't we hold off on this referendum talk for a year or two and see if we get these pipelines under construction?" Someone needs to grab a few crayons and explain to him that Alberta independence isn't about Manitoba. We will be glad to cooperate with him on projects, the movement is bigger than pipelines. His province will get $4.7B in equalization this year. Time to pull up your socks and contribute, Wab.

At the Forever Canada rally in Red Deer, one of Thomas Lukaszuk’s people followed me through the crowd and said he was there to “protect” me. I wasn’t sure how to take that, so we joked about it a little. But then we talked about something serious. A few days earlier in Edmonton, a Forever Canada supporter attacked an Alberta independence supporter who was peacefully waving his flag on the side of the road. The man tried to rip the flag away and pushed him toward traffic. That could have ended very badly. We both agree that that kind of behavior is wrong, and the person responsible should be in jail. That matters. We can disagree about Alberta independence. We can debate equalization, immigration, pipelines, federal control, Ottawa, the constitution, and the future of this province. But political violence has no place in this debate. Peaceful Albertans have every right to wave a flag, support a referendum, ask questions, and advocate for Alberta independence without being assaulted or threatened. But that is where we are at right now in Alberta. Full video:
