It's going to cost billions, and the only people who truly profit from it are the oil companies, not American families that are already paying too much at the pump. If oil companies want to invest in Venezuela’s oil infrastructure, they can do it with their own money. It seems obvious from this video that the administration worked with big U.S. oil companies before the attack to line up billions of dollars in capital for developing Venezuela’s oil reserves, yet they couldn’t be bothered to consult Congress.

Rebuilding Venezuela’s oil infrastructure is not, and should never be, the responsibility of the American taxpayer. Reconstruction will take several years and could cost $100B or more, with any profits flowing straight to the oil companies, not to American families who are already struggling with high costs. Foreign policy decisions should be guided by our national security interests and the Constitution, not open-ended, risky commitments made after the fact. Taxpayer dollars should be invested here at home, building American clean, cheap energy.

That would be socialism. We are a net exporter of PETROLEUM ONLY. Not oil. And we don’t use the type of oil we refine here, it’s too light. We IMPORT most of the oil we use.
