Perfect example of why training the public in CPR/ AED use is so important. She has a rare heart condition called Bland White Garland Syndrome where the left coronary artery originates from the pulmonary trunk. Some other causes of sudden cardiac arrest in the young: Commotio Cordis, Brugada Syndrome, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, Long QT Syndrome, WPW. Remember CPR basics for Adults: - 2 hands center of the chest, lower half of breast bone - At least 2 inches compression depth - 30:2 compression to breath radio - Stop each breath when you see the chest rise - 100 to 120 compression rate per minute (no medical training or do not feel comfortable giving breaths - just do compressions) - No delay in compressions over 10 secs. On June 17 around noon, Deputy Kurzinger was dispatched to a medical call at The Trails Recreation Center in Centennial. A 74-year-old man was unconscious, not breathing and had no pulse. Four rec center employees jumped into action and began performing CPR on the victim. One employee connected an AED, another performed chest compressions, another kept track of the compressions and the fourth was providing ventilation. Upon arrival, Deputy Kurzinger took over CPR due to the employee being fatigued. When South Metro Fire Rescue arrived, Deputy Kurzinger continued to assist with life-saving efforts until paramedics had their equipment ready. By that time, the victim had a pulse and was transported to the hospital. Just before the victim got into the ambulance, he gave a head nod to the deputy that he could hear and understand him.
