An update on my evening defending single-sex exemptions for Violence Against Women and Girls services in Haringey. Here is the Green Party Cabinet Member Cllr Tehseen Khan thanking demonstrators who had been screaming abuse and came to intimidate women attending a democratic council meeting. The Nolan Principles require those... in public office to demonstrate leadership, treat others with respect and challenge poor behaviour. So I have a simple question: how does publicly thanking those demonstrators meet the standards of leadership expected of a Cabinet Member? Whatever your views on this issue, women participating peacefully in local democracy should not be subjected to intimidation — and those holding public office should not appear to endorse it.show more

@HaringeyGreens @haringeycouncil The councillor got the ludicrous 80% figure from a 2010 report which was full of holes. It didn't disaggregate the data, so he cannot make assumptions about who was facing the "abuse" & the range of what constituted abuse was so broad as to be meaningless.

Those who think it's legit to use intimidation to silence women expose they only see women as mere support humans.
