These are decades old municipal houses situated in Pretorius Park. Occupants pay rental fees to the municipality. There are several issues with the houses, especially regarding maintenance and the management of leases. We made an oversight visit to the units with MMC for Human Settlements, Aaron Maluleka, and MMC for Corporate and Shared Services, Flora Monama. Our visit today forms part of efforts to strengthen the management of municipal assets. We aim to ensure that these houses are maintained and that they aren’t abandoned or hijacked. City of Tshwane

We have a plan about how we will help traders in Mabopane. Our decision to demolish illegal structures doesn’t mean we don’t want vendors to earn a living. Today, we conducted a special operation targeting Cemetery View and Plastic View Informal Settlements. We arrested over 90 illegal immigrants who are now being processed by Home Affairs. Deportations are expected in next few days following court approval. This is the beginning of a process to clean-up these areas. We have 800 South Africans who reside in Plastic View and they will be relocated by the City. Residents of Pretoria East have for years decried the lack of action pertaining to these informal settlements. We are glad that today the City was able to bring in support from SAPS and Home Affairs. We believe this predicament can be changed. We were joined by market management and a stakeholder at the market, IMASA. We held a successful Tshwane Ya Tima operation targeting debt owed to the city by National Government Departments. We have a debtors book off over R1 billion, and the majority of those who owe the city are provincial and national government entities. The arm of accountability isn’t only reserved for households and businesses. We will hold our counterparts in the government with the same responsibility when it pertains to the payment for municipal services. Today’s #TshwaneYaTima operation amounted to over R18 million. Tshwane-owned water tankers are on the road providing water to residents. We recently announced that we are abandoning contracted services for water tankers. From 1 April, City staff have been working to provide water to residents in need. We visited Hammanskraal hydrant collection points this morning along with Ward Councillors and MMC for Utility Services Cllr Frans Boshielo. While work is underway to stabilise water supply through infrastructure maintenance and repairs, residents must continue to receive adequate water supply. All these efforts form part our Water Stabilisation Plan that’s backed by funding from the City’s budget. City of Tshwane
