In the Arctic, the picture is also misrepresented. There has been no net trend in Arctic sea ice extent since Greta Thunberg was three years old. Season ups and downs play out, but there is no sustained decline. Taken together, total global sea ice extent right now is higher than it was in 2006. That was the year Al Gore predicted polar collapse and was awarded the Nobel Prize. This is not conjecture. It is what the satellite record shows.

The public was told shrinking sea ice means starving polar bears. Now the data say the opposite. A new Scientific Reports study tracked 770 polar bears around Svalbard over the past 27 years. The results show body conditions improved since the year 2000, even as the sea ice declined. The scientists found no direct link between declining sea ice and worsening adult bear condition. In fact, many bears got fatter. Globally, the polar bear population stood at just 5,000 in the 1960s. Today, it's at more than 30,000. And worse still for The Narrative, Arctic sea ice extent has held steady for the past 18 years now, showing no trends since 2007.

In fact, no decline in sea ice has been observed in 18 years, longer if you take into account the artificial drop post-2007 which was due to a sensor and an algorithmic change. Mainstream scientists are of course dumbfounded by this pause. One paper (Swart 2015) claimed that an 18-year pause in melting was less than 10% likely. Experts underestimated the resilience of Arctic sea ice, assigning more than a 90% chance against what has actually happened. The ice is not disappearing. The models have been proven wrong.
