Are there any experts on Tesla FSD that can explain why this happened?

HW3 cameras unable to distinguish shadow line from lane divider. V14 Lite needs further refinement. Fortunately, it’s supervised.

That makes sense

@Anonymo74369551 Would this happen if Teslas were equipped with lidar?

Profilbild von Anonymous
Anonymousvor 1 Monat

@grantbelden No, but it also wouldn’t happen with current cameras (HW4). HW4 provides discernment of such edge cases that HW3 fails at. Vision only is the solution, using current - not outdated - cameras.

Profilbild von Anonymous
Anonymousvor 1 Monat

@nikkikom @grantbelden Some may choose that, if their AI or cameras aren’t very advanced. For Tesla, their cameras and AI are fully capable. No need for LIDAR, radar, ultrasound. The HW3 incident is irrelevant to achieving autonomy with current hardware and AI.

@Ipulloutneva @nikkikom @grantbelden But Lidar wouldn't be confused by a shadow

@Ipulloutneva @nikkikom @grantbelden LIDAR doesn’t detect shadows!

I think the problem here is the driver allowing their car to do this. Either distracted it they just wanted to see what it would do, thus leading to endangering themselves and others on the road

Profilbild von grant
grantvor 1 Monat

….ok Why do you think FSD hit the wall?

Profilbild von ostina
ostinavor 1 Monat

Because the driver wasn’t paying attention and intervene whilst the car was drifting outside the lane…

Profilbild von ThePizza

@grantbelden Gotcha. Still doesn’t work. Driver was driving then.

Profilbild von ostina
ostinavor 1 Monat

@grantbelden Technically they are driving, or “supervising”. They’re liable for anything the car does. Congrats you’ve figured out what a level 2 ADAS is. Good boy.

@grantbelden As in your handle, no Tesla is self driving. You’ll figure it out soon I hope!

If you capture the moment before impact, it looks like the vision algorithm saw the area between the white line and the yellow line as drivable space, mistaking the concrete barrier for part of the road. An optical illusion that could have been prevented with Lidar...

OP from Reddit said it happened on v12 multiple times as well and he thinks it’s a steering motor or hardware issue as the car has had a $20k repair from a previous accident

It fucking sucks and a bunch of idiots still slobber all over Elon's knob to an embarrassing degree. They can't handle the most bare minimum critique, like that some shitty cameras can't do this. Company is wearing no clothes and yet people keep pretending like it ain't naked.

Honestly, it could just be a faked video I’ve never seen this behavior on FSD. If it’s real then the model probably effectively fell asleep. Shouldn’t have anything to do with the sun or wall since this is a highly likely environment for it to be in

Profilbild von grant
grantvor 1 Monat

…..buddy FSD is not perfect Dismissing videos like this as “fake” based on literally nothing isn’t the right approach JFC, you people

Profilbild von •
vor 1 Monat

The “literally” nothing is me driving 30k miles with it and never having the above case on v12.6.4 nor v14 lite. v12 would sometimes fall asleep when stopped but v14 hasn’t had any of that yet. Neither had the above behavior

Profilbild von •
vor 1 Monat

So the base case is that it’s faked. Maybe computer failed somehow, though it does have two nodes to run from. Usually one is active and the other is in shadow mode running another models

Buddy, 30k miles isn’t a lot of miles Waymo does something like half a million a day

I can explain it. It happened because you were paying attention using level 2 software. I hope that helps.

If only there were a system that could provide accurate, real-time 3D geometry of the vehicle’s surroundings using laser-based ranging, so the car can reliably know where things are, not just what they look like….

Not enough photons were counted, or too many, or the photons were oriented the wrong way. They need a recount and a straightening out.
