Gun control support just hit its lowest point in years. And the timing could not be worse for anti-gun politicians. New Rasmussen numbers show support for stricter gun control fell to 48 percent among likely voters. 43 percent now oppose it outright. Think about that. Years of media pressure. Years of red flag laws. Years of magazine restrictions. Years of politicians demanding assault weapons bans. And support went down. Not up. But here’s where the trick comes in. The poll also asked if people would support a candidate who promised to ban semi-automatic “assault-type” weapons. 46 percent said yes. Sounds scary. Until you look at the wording. “Assault weapon” is not a real firearms category. It’s a political marketing term. People hear it and picture machine guns. But the question is really about semi-automatic firearms. One trigger pull. One round. The same way most rifles, shotguns, and handguns already work. That’s the game. Scary term. Ordinary gun. Virginia passed a new gun ban — and now some of the very prosecutors expected to enforce it are saying no. The law makes it a misdemeanor to buy, sell, transfer, import, or manufacture certain “assault firearms,” punishable by up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine. That means a rifle that was legal on June 30th became a crime on July 1st because politicians moved a line on paper. But at least five Virginia prosecutors have already said they will not enforce the ban, arguing that it violates the Second Amendment. And here’s the poetic part: Virginia Democrats helped protect prosecutorial discretion years ago, meaning the governor and attorney general can complain all they want — but they can’t force those prosecutors to bring charges. They built the off-switch. Now it’s being used on their own gun ban. This is a win, but it’s not the end. The law is still on the books statewide, and the real fight is in court. With more than 20 million AR-15s in America and the rifle clearly in common use, this is exactly the kind of case the Supreme Court needs to stop ducking. Massive respect to Capital City Fire for fighting this injustice for years when few would. Now even Doug Ford and other premiers are standing up for lawful gun owners — and the truth is finally breaking through. Criminals don’t follow laws. Law-abiding Canadians do. Disarming the law-abiding doesn’t stop crime. Holding criminals accountable does!
