How does it work for adding additional records/ chunks of data? i.e. how would new AR data get appended?

Its a tree of pages, so conceptually we just store only the ones that we changed in a new message, having those reference the old ones as needed. In practice, I think we will end up using the top bit of LMDB page IDs as a 'local' or 'global' reference switch. Low == pages at offsets in the same TX. High == global Arweave offsets. This way we will be able to cross-reference and 'jump' between the pages, while still maintaining basic LMDB format compatibility.
