here are 5 habits to route Fable 5 effectively after the July 1 changes I've been running it on real agent tasks since it came back July 1 after the gov lift. The wider safety margin classifier is rerouting more coding and debug work to Opus 4.8 than before. BridgeBench debugging 86.2 → 25.9 in the re-runs. Around 2x opus price, and paid plans get 50% weekly included usage through July 7. 1. don't send it routine debugging or refactors this one is specific to the new classifier. it sees those patterns and hands the task to 4.8 without telling you up front. 2. open with the full why and stakes for the work keeps it out of the safety trigger zone on bigger asks. 3. watch the first few tokens or logs for model version you'll spot the reroute before investing real time and seeing the slop that shows up more on the fallback path. 4. do your hardest sessions early in the week burn the quota on high-value stuff before the July 7 cliff. 5. handle planning, scaffolding and checks with Sonnet 5 Fable only for the narrow slice where nothing else delivers. so treat Fable 5 like the specialist routing layer now. test your actual agent workflows today—the reroute behavior is the gotcha you can work around if you see it coming.
