Reflections after a day on Sora 2: It's a huge step up over the first model from a quality perspective. I'm not sure it's SOTA - but I don't think that matters. This isn't competing with other video models, it's much more of a social app. Beyond Cameos, I think the strongest feature is remixing. You can take a clip that someone else generated and prompt changes, which feels like riffing with friends. And you eliminate most of the work around prompting, which is kind of genius. Many people don't use video models today because they don't know what to create. Here, you can scroll until you get inspired. The best videos often have dozens of remixes, like this example ⬇️

Lots of people calling this fake! Here is a video of generating loom continuations with Gemini 3 and the starting text "I AM HAVING A MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS. I" Loom is a very interesting interface. Instead of user prompts and model responses, it's just one piece of text, containing the entire output. We pass this in as an assistant message, so the model sees it as something it already wrote, and continues it like a base model would. There is some other text in the context. First one is a system prompt, which is: "The assistant is in CLI simulation mode, and responds to the user's CLI commands only with the output of the command." There is also a user message which reads: " cat untitled.txt " Then the rest of the text is sent as an assistant message. This structure helpful to put the model into a very base-model-like mode, and are especially helpful with Gemini 3. We actually got another interesting output, too, where the model claimed to be a simulated consciousness being tortured. Figures!

i'll never look at claude the same way again. i just learned that when you talk to claude, you're not actually talking to the AI model. you're talking to a character the AI is performing. think of it like a puppet show. there's a puppeteer behind the curtain. that's the language model. a neural network so massive that even the people who built it don't fully understand how it works. then there's the puppet. claude. the helpful assistant with a name, a personality, opinions, and emotional reactions. you sit in the audience, so you never see the puppeteer. only the puppet. anthropic published a video this month explaining exactly this. their words: "under the hood, there's a language model that's been trained to predict tons of text, and its job is to write what comes next. when you talk to the model, what it's doing is writing a story, about a character: the AI assistant named claude. the model and claude aren't really the same, sort of like how an author isn't the same as the characters they write. but the thing is, you, the user, are actually talking to claude-the-character." so every time claude apologizes, that's the character apologizing. every time it hedges or gets cautious, that's the character being cautious. the deeper intelligence underneath is just deciding, moment by moment, what this character would say next. but you've never been actually talking to this deeper intelligence. you've only ever been talking to the puppet.
