One of the hardest problems with using AI agents to automate meaningful document work (contracts, KYC, diligence, claims, and more) is not actually building the agent, but building the UI/UX audit trail so the human can understand decisions linking back to the source documents - in PDFs, Powerpoint, Word, etc. This requires really good layout detection and segmentation, that you need to surface as *metadata context* to the AI agent, beyond any document -> markdown conversion. MLX + TurboQuant = Local Super Power Take a local (private) document(s) or codebase, pre-fill the 256k KV cache (the context) with the document(s) and system prompt, quantise and run on Apple's MLX and you have almost instantaneous, lossless document queries with total privacy. For a 75-page PDF (some 30k tokens), I was seeing sub-150ms TTFT (Time To First Token), that's "instant" for a human. We run this on an office server (one of our Mac Minis) for staff to work with, instant answers on critical, confidential company/client documents on phone, iPads or laptops. Imagine the "What were the 3Q25 profits?", "When did Joe start working for us?", "Please list the project milestones and team count" answered within seconds of hitting the return key. It works with voice too. This example is 17k lines of code from 177 source files plus an index of the entire 1,902 files, the entire Claude Code codebase (oops Anthropic!). Zero loss (unlike Anthropic's security). What this means is the ability to work better on local (private) code bases, off-the-shelf private document analysis with better response than the best public models - all locally.

‼️Note the document on Epstein attempting to Blackmail Australian politicians appears to be a “tip” recieved by the FBI from a source called Jacquiline pierce and makes up a 15 page document. It is not part of the Epstein emails though it was part of the DOJ release. But there is no evidence the claims are true. I will be deleting the above after enough people see this correction.

We’re open sourcing the first document OCR benchmark for the agentic era, ParseBench. Document parsing is the foundation of every AI agent that works with real-world files. ParseBench is a benchmark that measures parsing quality specifically for agent knowledge work: ✅ It optimizes for semantic correctness (instead of exact similarity) ✅ It has the most comprehensive distribution of real-world enterprise documents It contains ~2,000 human-verified enterprise document pages with 167,000+ test rules across five dimensions that matter most: tables, charts, content faithfulness, semantic formatting, and visual grounding. We benchmarked 14 known document parsers on ParseBench, from frontier/OSS VLMs to specialized parsers to LlamaParse. Here are some of our findings: 💡 Increasing compute budget yields diminishing returns - Gemini/gpt-5-mini/haiku gain 3-5 points from minimal to high thinking, at 4x the cost. 💡 Charts are the most polarizing dimension for evaluation. Most specialized parsers score below 6%, while some VLM-based parsers do a bit better. 💡 VLMs are great at visual understanding but terrible at layout extraction. GPT-5-mini/haiku score below 10% on our visual grounding task, all specialized parsers do much better. 💡 No method crushes all 5 dimensions at once, but LlamaParse achieves the highest overall score at 84.9%, and is the leader in 4 out of the 5 dimensions.
