As Mayor Brandon Johnson Brandon Johnson moves forward with plans to convert parts of the Loop’s financial district into public housing, critics warn the city is walking directly into the same disastrous policies that once produced Cabrini-Green, the Robert Taylor Homes, and decades of concentrated poverty. One of those...

If parenting is too burdensome, perhaps Mayor Brandon Johnson should have remained a CTU organizer. And if crime, housing, and the budget are so overwhelming, why not concentrate on those issues rather than visit the border? Pay no attention to Johnson. He is just a talker.

Housing is a human right. No one in this city should have to worry about losing their home or end up on the streets due to systemic issues. Homelessness and the housing crisis are not two different problems, they are two sides of the same coin. And they have the same solution – permanent affordable housing. Trickle down economics is a fallacy. The market cannot provide affordable housing. Prices are only going up, driving people into homelessness, or out of the city entirely. Rae will build social housing on public lands and speed up housing production citywide, cutting red tape while keeping in place tenant and homeowner protections to ensure that people are able to keep their homes. Rae will streamline the city’s housing strategy, creating a Mayor’s Office of Housing For All to consolidate these different departments under one roof, with a public dashboard to track progress and hold us accountable. WTTW's Chicago Tonight isn't known as a repository of intellectual honesty, but Steve Daniels was brutally honest. Daniels referred to Mayor Brandon Johnson as a "tool of the union (CTU)" and described the role Johnson is playing in negotiations with the CTU as "not protecting taxpayers." Whoa.

A socialist candidate for New York’s 13th Congressional District has called for revoking a rule that keeps violent criminals out of New York City public housing. Darializa Avila Chevalier, who is currently locked in a tight and divisive Democratic primary race with incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat, has said she supports eliminating the New York City Housing Authority’s "permanent exclusion" policy. The NYCHA regulation, the agency says, allows the city to keep murderers, drug dealers, sex offenders, and other criminals out of the country’s largest public housing operation, with as many as 400,000 residents, most of them women and children.

Chicago River North woman says her balcony view is now trash, drug use and people having sex A 20-year resident reports that an alley behind her building has turned into the "filthiest block" in the neighborhood. Neighbors are forced to witness daily open drug use, public sex, and break-ins, while dealing with mountains of garbage and a severe rat infestation. Despite six years of constant 311 calls, police reports, and direct pleas to city leadership, the situation has only deteriorated. This is the grim reality of Chicago under Mayor Brandon Johnson. River North is one of the richest parts of the city with some of the highest rent in Chicago, yet paying top dollar no longer guarantees basic municipal service. While Johnson hyper-focuses on forcing low-income housing into the city’s wealthiest areas to satisfy an ideological agenda, he cannot even maintain basic public safety, sanitation, and order on the streets we already have. Pushing complex social engineering policies while failing at fundamental city management shows exactly where this administration's priorities lie—and it isn't with law-abiding taxpayers.

Chicago Flips Red Responds to Mayor Brandon Johnson Mayor Brandon Johnson recently said President Donald Trump should “stop wasting billions on illegal wars abroad and instead respond to the calls of working families in Chicago.” Working families in Chicago have been calling for help for years. They’ve been asking for safer neighborhoods, affordable housing, stronger schools, economic opportunity, and accountability at every level of city government. Instead, many residents see homelessness increasing, decades-long waiting lists for public housing assistance, businesses struggling, property crime affecting communities, and young lives lost to violence. Chicago taxpayers deserve answers. We pay some of the highest taxes in the nation. Where is the return on that investment? In our opinion, Chicago’s ongoing crises including public safety, homelessness, housing affordability, education, and the financial impact of the migrant response require greater transparency and accountability. Chicago Flips Red believes federal authorities should thoroughly examine any credible allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, or other violations of federal law. Where warranted by the evidence, the appropriate federal agencies including the FBI, the IRS Criminal Investigation Division, and the U.S. Department of Justice should investigate. We also believe the federal government should evaluate what additional resources are necessary to help restore public safety and public confidence, consistent with the law. Working families in Chicago deserve results, not excuses. #ChicagoFlipsRed

In his final days in office, former Mayor Eric Adams sought to shield Elizabeth Street Garden as NYC parkland, so that it couldn’t be developed into affordable housing. The garden has sat as a rare nature enclave in one of the busiest parts of Manhattan for decades. Will Mayor Brandon Johnson get $1.25B to turn LaSalle Street into migrant housing? I know many of you are furious with Chicago Mayor Johnson and I don't blame you. If you are angry and frustrated, understand this. The #Chicago City Council plans to vote on his $1.25B affordable housing borrowing plan this Friday. This is in addition to the $70M request he has made for #migrant housing and care. This $1.25B money grab is what he really wants - and he wants to use that money to turn Chicago's LaSalle Street into taxpayer-funded apartments for migrants. His Brighton Park tent city failed and his Bring Chicago Home Referendum failed. He can't afford this to fail too. So, don't get distracted by things that won't work. As a resident, as a voter and as a citizen, you have more power than you know. Please like, comment, and share this report widely. If this troubles you, voice your opposition and contact your alderman. #thatreporter

Sandra Smith, a born-and-raised Chicagoan, called it like it is—Democrats like Gov. JB Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson have turned the Windy City into the Withered City. Sandra Smith: “I come from a unique perspective of born and raised Chicagoan. I say leaders like Governor JB Pritzker, and the Mayor Brandon Johnson have destroyed that city. So much has gone wrong there and they're having a really hard time recruiting top talent to the companies there. So much so that they've had to a lot of the big companies flee—He still paints a picture of a lovely lakefront in Chicago with no crime and perfectly pleasant here. He's out of touch ....”

WATCH: Chicago Public Schools CEO Pedro Martinez just made his strongest statement yet about what led to Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson firing him. Johnson and Chicago Teachers Union President Stacy Davis Gates pressured Martinez to take out a reckless $300 million loan that would have plunged the district further into financial crisis, because they think they can force Gov. JB Pritzker’s hand to bail out the district given his presidential aspirations. Martinez refused to back the loan. So the mayor and the union ousted him. This entire clip is a must-watch.

Today, Mayor Brandon Johnson referred to Saturday's mass shooting which killed one and wounded 15 others as a "setback." The mayor then went on to blame Trump, guns, and cuts to the AFT budget for Chicago's epidemic of gun violence. Not one word from the mayor about gangs or arresting and jailing violent criminals.
