Housing is a human right. No one in this city should have to worry about losing their home or end up on the streets due to systemic issues. Homelessness and the housing crisis are not two different problems, they are two sides of the same coin. And they have the same solution – permanent affordable housing. Trickle down economics is a fallacy. The market cannot provide affordable housing. Prices are only going up, driving people into homelessness, or out of the city entirely. Rae will build social housing on public lands and speed up housing production citywide, cutting red tape while keeping in place tenant and homeowner protections to ensure that people are able to keep their homes. Rae will streamline the city’s housing strategy, creating a Mayor’s Office of Housing For All to consolidate these different departments under one roof, with a public dashboard to track progress and hold us accountable. A socialist candidate for New York’s 13th Congressional District has called for revoking a rule that keeps violent criminals out of New York City public housing. Darializa Avila Chevalier, who is currently locked in a tight and divisive Democratic primary race with incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat, has said she supports eliminating the New York City Housing Authority’s "permanent exclusion" policy. The NYCHA regulation, the agency says, allows the city to keep murderers, drug dealers, sex offenders, and other criminals out of the country’s largest public housing operation, with as many as 400,000 residents, most of them women and children.

Chicago Flips Red Responds to Mayor Brandon Johnson Mayor Brandon Johnson recently said President Donald Trump should “stop wasting billions on illegal wars abroad and instead respond to the calls of working families in Chicago.” Working families in Chicago have been calling for help for years. They’ve been asking for safer neighborhoods, affordable housing, stronger schools, economic opportunity, and accountability at every level of city government. Instead, many residents see homelessness increasing, decades-long waiting lists for public housing assistance, businesses struggling, property crime affecting communities, and young lives lost to violence. Chicago taxpayers deserve answers. We pay some of the highest taxes in the nation. Where is the return on that investment? In our opinion, Chicago’s ongoing crises including public safety, homelessness, housing affordability, education, and the financial impact of the migrant response require greater transparency and accountability. Chicago Flips Red believes federal authorities should thoroughly examine any credible allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, or other violations of federal law. Where warranted by the evidence, the appropriate federal agencies including the FBI, the IRS Criminal Investigation Division, and the U.S. Department of Justice should investigate.
