This is why first seasons of this show were so good. The Director knew how to mesh humor and a subtle morale lessons for the kids. Pokemon as an anime is a slow decline into zombie show status. The quality of humor was replaced with insipid goodfeel, no personality behavior.

The writing in the first season was actually pretty funny. Ash got so stale after a while.
