At first, #RM expressed concern about using the Arirang sample in 'Body to Body,' as something that might sound cool to foreign listeners could come across as overly patriotic or like forced hype to Korean audiences. 🐨 I don't completely disagree (with using it). 🐨 'Arirang' here does fit... show more

📽 | BTS discusses whether or not to use the Arirang sample: 🐨 It's so tradicional. #RM explaining why BTS chose 'ARIRANG' as the name of their fifth album. 🐨 When we reunited as seven again, we kept thinking about what truly feels most like us, most like BTS. 🐨 And we wanted to show where we started from. 🐨 All of us are Korean. 🐨 So we felt it would be very meaningful to include something that represents Korea. 🐨 That's how the keyword 'Arirang' came up. 🐨 Arirang is something everyone interprets differently, because its lyrics are abstract. 🐨 So I think about wistfulness, longing and love. 🐨 To be honest I thought a lot about those things when I was in the military. 🐨 Because you end up reflecting a lot on the past and on performing again, too. 🐿️ You have this longing for everything while you're in the military. 🐨 You yearn for society, the ARMY, you miss the BTS members, the past. 🐨 Arirang contains all the joys and sorrows of life, and since it’s been a long time since we released an album, 🐨 we wanted to encompass everything we’ve been through in our music, and we felt that the concept of Arirang could really capture that and tie the album together. 26.01.16

[BTS Arirang live] 260320 🐹When I first heard the title “Arirang,” I was surprised. I thought, “Is our company really going to make us sing the Arirang song now?” I even thought, “Is the title going to be ‘Arirang~’ like that?” 😺Because hyung was on tour. 🐨Arirang ended up being included in Body to Body. It became another cool version of Arirang in 2026. 🐹We had a lot of meetings about it, discussing where and how it should be included. #JIN #방탄소년단진 방탄소년단

🐨: When we all got together, we were like, so what is something that’s really us? We thought about that a lot, and we wanted to show where we started, I think. 🐨: All seven of us are also, all Korean, too, and we thought it would be good if something symbolizing Korea could be included together, and while thinking that, we ended up, uh, bringing up the keyword, uh, “Arirang.” 🐨: “Arirang,” of course, is kind of… honestly, everyone interprets it differently, since the lyrics are abstract. I think it’s a story about this lingering feeling, longing, and love. That’s what I think. 🐨: I think that’s something I actually thought about a lot while I was in the military. You end up thinking a lot about the past, You miss everything. Something. 🐨: I miss civilian life, I miss ARMY, and I really miss the BTS members, and I miss the past. So, also now, since “Arirang” contains all the joys, angers, sorrows, and pleasures of life together, that kind of emotion felt like it could, in this album of ours. 🐨: As we’re putting out an album for the first time in a while, well, encompass our—what we’ve been through so far, the joys, angers, sorrows, and pleasures, and really tie together the music like that. 🐿️: But the thing that’s truly the most like us, that feels like our roots, and that we could show clearly in that way, I think that was “Arirang.” 🐰: Something that can tie it together— some kind of— 🐿️: Uh, I listened and I was like, oh, kind of like that. 🐨: We sang “Arirang” ten years ago, and at KCON Paris. 🐰: I saw that stage, on the channel. 🐿️: Wait a second, do you remember this? Ah, we did our Arirang and did it like this. We danced hard back then. 🐨: Since that happened, in a way, ten years later, now it ends up coming out as our “Arirang.” I think that’s what happened. 🐰: That’s fascinating.

🐨: The song 'Body to Body' was originally supposed to be titled 'Body on Body.' If I remember correctly, it was a song with a very sexual nuance, like 'I need somebody on body.' You get the general vibe…bodies overlapping and all that. So it was a pretty sensual song. 🐨: Of course, it's not like we can't do sexual songs anymore; after all, we are in our 30s now. However, I just felt that putting out a highly sexual song right now without a clear reason wasn't the right direction for us. 🐨: So, I thought about 'Hand in Hand'—the theme song for the 1988 Seoul Olympics by Koreana…and shifted the concept to 'Body to Body,' playing on the idea of holding onto each other's bodies instead of just hands. I really wanted it to become an anthem. 🐨: There was a lot of debate in the documentary about whether or not we should include 'Arirang' (to sample the folk song). Since some of the context was edited out, it might look a bit sudden, but after listening to it for the third time, I finally understood the reasoning behind it. 🐨: We had been listening to the version without 'Arirang' for a long time, so when it was first added, it felt a bit unfamiliar. Some people might even look at it and think, 'Isn't this trying too hard to push forced Korean patriotism (Gukbong)?' To be fair, that's a perfectly valid perspective. 🐨: But ultimately, when you think about it in the context of live concerts, that part hits differently. Seeing so many international fans waiting for that exact moment and singing along to a traditional Korean folk song perfectly... that is not a scene you can just artificially manufacture or stage. 🐨: I actually really like the GIF of that moment. J-Hope is dancing and grooving excitedly right next to me, while I'm standing there looking deeply serious and thinking to myself, 'Oh man, this is huge. We might be in trouble.'

🐥 ARMYs might wonder: Arirang all of a sudden? 🐿️🐰 correct 🐥 like why'd it be Arirang? 🐻 but I also wondered that 🐿️😂 suddenly? 🐰 like "oh?", "eh?", "huh?" 🐿️like "it's Arirang?" but we did surprise them 🐹 that's right 🐥 international ARMYs might've wondered what is Arirang and Korean ARMYs might be like why is it Arirang all of a sudden 🐻 but the secret to this will be revealed gradually 🐿️ how will it be revealed? 🐻 once the album comes out: "boom" 🐨I hope the album come sout fast 🐰 right it's too far 🐨 ah please the album come out quickly 🐥 I think it'll get explained once they listen to the album 🐨 right, when we all gathere together, we started from wondering "what all we did together so far" and I think we wanted to show where we started from.. all 7 of us are Koreans and we were hoping that something that represents/symbolizes Korea would go into it as well and the keyword "Arirang" came up.. honestly everyone interprest Arirang differently since the lyrics are abstract... like sentimentality and longing and love, is what I think of it as.. 🐰 right 🐨 honestly, while I was in the military, I thought of that a lot.. like the past and doing concerts 🐿️ we longed for/missed it all 🐨 we missed (being out in) the society, we missed ARMY, and missed the Bangtan members a lot as well, the past as well.. and since Arirang contains the happiness, anger, sadness, and joy of humans... so we hope that that sentiment, would be included in the album that we're releasing after a long along with the music including the happiness, anger, sadness, and joy that we experienced ourselves, we thought that it'd tie it all up together well. 🐿️ it really seems like 'us' and feels like our roots... We are seeing a lot of confusion about "Body to Body", so just to clear things up: Yoongi and Namjoon were not against using the Arirang sample. What they had concerns about was how it was layered in the track. In the earlier version, the sample was much louder and overlapped with the vocals, which made it overwhelming for listeners. The final version we got is different, with the sample more subtly blended into the background. So, to be clear, they were not against the Arirang sample itself. The version we hear today reflects adjustments made after those initial concerns were raised.

#RM said he's romantically attracted to people who show their duality. 🐨 I kind of want to see like the contradictionary image from somebody, because if somebody could be very serious but very ridiculous and humorous at the same time, maybe I think I might fall in love with that person... 🐨 Because I don't know why, but maybe if I could be with that kind of person for long time, I feel that I might have a really happy life and happy time, such full of content. 🐨 Talking about...maybe the social issues, from political things and just things like 'Which beer do you prefer the most? Belgian or German? I prefer Korean' 🐨 Something like that. 🐨 I think I find such rizz when I see somebody's very...a duality. 🐨 Yeah, the duality.

The song “Aliens” was originally going to be “Endless” until #RM came up with the idea to change it. 🐨 Endless and aliens sound really similar. 🐨 So we changed to Aliens and I wrote the lyrics with, 'what if we just claim ourselves as aliens to all those foreigners abroad.'

🐨: Before we get into the good news, I wanted to address this. Regarding ARIRANG, it is a song about love... It is also about longing for a loved one and is filled with sorrow. 🐨: So, ARIRANG is a key word that can be interpreted in many ways. For some, it represents resistance or a symbol of deep resentment (Han), while for others, it is a song about the sorrows and joys of life and longing. 🐨: Because it carries so many different layers of emotion, we thought it was the perfect theme to express the diverse feelings we wanted to share. 🐥: Also, because we have many ARMY around the world, we thought they would look up what ARIRANG is and learn more about our culture since we are Korean. 🐱: I actually performed Arirang in Paris about 10 years ago. 🐥: That's right! So it felt very meaningful to make this decision.

👤: Arirang has such a strong, like, Korean root and culture. Obviously, that was the plan. When you think about your legacy and how you want to be remembered, what comes to mind? 🐨: Oh, thank you for a great question. I thought about—we all thought about this a lot and talked about this a lot. But I think, you know, when you have some sort of specific intention when you make something, especially like music, it always fails, I think. 🐨: So, um, we've been—we've been vacant for like years, and I think what I've realized is that, it's just—we just met our fans yesterday—last night in Jimmy Fallon, and to just see their eyes and their energy, just—I thought—I felt like that was everything that we need as a maker for our content. So, we just want to have a good time with the ARMYs and the people that love us and listen to us. 🐨: And the Korean and Arirang—Arirang was really important for us because we just want to, like, claim ourselves again, like as we started, rooted in Korea. And now we're here, like we're in New York, we're in Europe, we're everywhere, but still we just want to make it clear that we all born in Korea, started everything in Korea, and we just wanted our new album and our sound from now on could be universal and, like, eternal like the Korean traditional song.

ARIRANG TOUR IN BUSAN D2 #RM ending ment for BTS 13th anniversary. 🐨 Ok everyone, it’s been a while since I’ve felt such mixed feelings like this. 🐨 13… 🗣️ *KIM NAMJOON* 🐨 Thank you. It’s been a while since I’ve heard that. 🐨 Everyone…well.. 🐨 It’s been quite a long time, hasn’t it? 🐨 Honestly, it feels like just yesterday that we were in the practice room performing “No More Dream” and “We Are Bulletproof Pt.2,” but somehow all this time has already passed. 🐨 So much has changed since then. 🐨 We worked hard here in Korea, then gradually spent more and more time overseas, there was more English in our lyrics, and so many other changes happened along the way. 🐨 During that time, K-pop as an industry grew tremendously, and younger artists started coming to us more often. 🐨 They ask us things like, “How have you managed to stay together as a team for so long?” 🐨 They asked before we enlisted, and they still ask now. 🐨 But honestly, I don't really know. 🐨 I think I've continued to reflect on myself through these 6 members, and through all of you who are here and who continue to watch over us. 🐨 Unlike before, I don't really share my thoughts that often, and I don't talk openly about my feelings much either. 🐨 So it feels like it's been a while since I've said this to you. 🐨 Anyway, over the years, there was “Love Yourself”, there was “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life”, “Dynamite”, and so many things all the way to ARIRANG. 🐨 While performing “Magic Shop” earlier, the past 13 years flashed before my eyes like a revolving lantern. 🐨 Anyway, being able to be here together like this is truly such an honor, and I'm so grateful. 🐨 No matter where we are, and no matter what we look like, we'll always do our very best, and keep working hard to show you who we truly are. 🐨 I hope you'll continue to stay with us for a long, long time. 🐨 Thank you. I love you. 🐨 Thank you.

Our video post of Taehyung on March 21, 2026 from Weverse Live speaking about ARIRANG and "Arirang," somehow disappeared from our timeline - this is a full re-upload with translations time-stamped. Taehyung spoke about how important "Arirang," the folk song, is as a Korean. That when people are happy or sad, feeling sorrow or even wish to laugh, there is "Arirang." "Arirang" is about love, longing, loss, hope and resilience. He also mentions that BigHit suggested it as the theme to BTS for the album. The other clips we posted from the Netflix comeback concert show, Taehyung's eyes rolling back into his head the moment "Arirang" started and the folk singers were about to come on; he felt that deep in his blood and in his bones. His hand gestures, and how he pointed upwards and outwards showed his passion. 💜 __ 00:08 - 00:15,Taehyung,마지막에 아리랑이 나오는데 그게 뭔가 테마가 됐어요.,At the end, Arirang comes out, and that somehow became the theme. 00:20 - 00:23,Taehyung,아리랑은 버전이 되게 많잖아요.,There are many versions of Arirang, you know? 00:24 - 00:33,Taehyung,아리랑은... 진짜 막 웃고 싶을 때도 아리랑... 한국 사람들은...,Arirang is... even when you really want to laugh, Arirang... for Korean people... 00:34 - 00:43,Taehyung,슬플 때도 부르고. 여러 감정들이 있을 때 아리랑을 되게 많이 부르잖아요.,We sing it even when we’re sad. When there are various emotions, we sing Arirang a lot. 00:46 - 00:52,Taehyung,그런 감정들이... 'Body to Body'랑 되게 잘 어울리더라고요.,Those emotions... they ended up going really well with 'Body to Body.' 00:53 - 01:04,Taehyung,제 아이디어는 아니었고, 회사에서 되게 멋있게 의견을 주셔서...,It wasn't my idea; the company gave a really cool suggestion/opinion... 01:05 - 01:11,Taehyung,처음엔 '어?' 했다가, 듣다 보니까 '오' 하게 되는...,At first I was like, 'Huh?' but as I kept listening, I went, 'Oh!' 01:12 - 01:18,Taehyung,아미.,ARMY. #BTS_ARIRANG #BTS_SWIM #BTSLive #BTSLiveonNetflix

🐨 What's it like to be a 30 y.o K-pop star? 🐨 You speak gently and make soft music 🐨 'You can do it too' 🐨 I love it of course. That's the mindset of K-pop. 🐨 But we should discuss negative and personal sides 🐨 We should do that as artists 🐨 That's how we change the scene 🐨 As for 'Right Place, Wrong Person' I thought about myself in this industry the most. — RM for 'Right People, Wrong Place'

260418 ARIRANG IN TOKYO D2 #RM Ending Ment 🐨 I personally like watching movies in the theater. 🐨 I really love when I turn off my phone and focus on one film for two hours. 🐨 These days, no matter where we are, we end up looking at our phones, right? 🐨 So when I heard we were coming to Tokyo Dome, I was really excited. 🐨 Today, you watched us with your own eyes rather than through your phones. 🐨 That made me so happy. 🐨 For these two hours, you let us feel like we were inside a movie. 🐨 And thanks to you, I was able to become the main character of that movie. 🐨 I’ll never forget this day. Thank you so much. 🐨 I think I'll miss you so much no matter where I am. 🐨 I love you from the bottom of my heart.
