How can we say that he was a terrorist ? Unless he appears in a court of law, a person who is declared a terrorist after a court trial is also entitled to some basic and minimum human rights as a human being and under Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions and Additional Protocols, but this admission by the current establishment of Pakistan is clear evidence that the current government of Pakistan is committing serious human rights violations and war crimes. Now, scientists are scrambling to find a way to publish this major annual report anyway, to continue to track how climate change is transforming the Arctic. This decision is the latest in a series of moves by the administration to curtail scientific research into the impacts of climate change, which the administration argues is plagued with misinformation and alarmism. The Free Speech Union has always been clear that the right to free speech does not include the right to break the law in an attempt to silence others or deprive them of their freedom of speech through fear and intimidation. Tonight in the House of Lords, FSU General Secretary Lord Young of Acton spoke in favour of Amendment 370A to the Crime and Policing Bill. Last Monday, the Free Speech Union was the victim of a malicious attack by a militant pro-trans ‘direct action’ group that encourages its supporters to steal hammers and take action against Members of Parliament. This is the same group that graffitied the Health Secretary’s constituency office — painting “child killer” on his window — vandalised the offices of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), and disrupted a women’s conference in Brighton. The group sought to silence us for defending the right of citizens — whom they disagree with — to express their views freely. Everyone has the right to disagree. Healthy, robust debate strengthens our policymaking and society. But groups that engage in criminal activity — including advocating violence — restrict the liberties of others. This is wrong. The amendment would create a new category of “Extreme Criminal Protest Groups” (ECPGs), targeting organisations that deliberately break the law to influence public policy or intimidate those defending our fundamental rights. The California Coastal Commission has already made up its mind that it would deny SpaceX a coastal development permit (CDP) if SpaceX applies for one – It is a foregone conclusion. The problem for the Commission is that the US Space Force has already agreed to ALL of the Commission's demands regarding environmental safeguards and monitoring at Vandenberg for the increased number of SpaceX launches. Now, the Commission realizes that if it votes in favor of the consistency certification of the US Space Force, it would be impossible to then find a plausible environmental reason to deny SpaceX a CDP that's based on the exact same parameters as the US Space Force's consistency certification. This is an overt act of political bias by the Commission against Elon Musk and SpaceX. This is why SpaceX has filed a federal lawsuit against the Commission to seek an order that would bar the Commission from regulating its rocket launch program at Vandenberg. This is important because the Commission will try to force SpaceX to apply for a CDP via enforcement action – An application for a CDP that the Commission has no intention whatsoever of granting.

Mariam Wangadya, Head of the Uganda Human Rights Commission, should as a bare minimum protect and defend the rights of the people she works with at the Commission. Unfortunately, she is involved in “muzigo” exchanges with them and even victimizing those who are HIV positive. Dear Ms. Wangadya, is the need for ARVs among those you work the reason the Commission you head is so incompetent! Are those who need expensive ARVs the reason you stay silent instead of calling to order those involved in human rights violations? Ironically Ms. Wangadya is promoting stigma and discrimination. She should be protecting HIV victims instead of stigmatizing them. Hopefully, she is called to order and made to apologize for her careless and insensitive utterances.

While America celebrates the 13th Amendment as the official end of slavery, what is happening inside its prisons shows that slavery did not actually end. It was repackaged and reshaped through a loophole in the same law that claims to abolish it. What you see in places like the so-called Angola prison makes that contradiction clear. The same country that speaks about global freedom and claims to police human rights abuses is still profiting from forced labor within its own system, backed and protected by its own laws. That is the reality. For Africans and people across the Global South, this is something to pay attention to. It shows that the image America presents to the world is not the full story, and it raises serious questions about how seriously its claims on human rights should be taken.
