The greatest player in NHL history and Lead Studio & Event Analyst for TNT Sports, Wayne Gretzky, says he’s been very impressed with Gavin McKenna so far, calling him very mature for an 18-year-old and saying he’s going to be fine as he continues to grow and get stronger “There’s a lot of pressure when you get the first pick overall. My hat goes off to this young man. It’s one thing to go to Toronto, be the first pick overall, and there’s way more pressure if you’re a Canadian boy and you get drafted number one by Canada than Toronto. I’ve listened to a lot of what he said. He seems like he’s very mature for 18 years old. He’s a young kid. He’s not very big, but he’s going to grow and get stronger. I really like the way he’s handled himself, the media and the game itself. He’s going to be fine, and I think the group in Toronto is putting together a nice little hockey club here. I think they’re going to be a better team this year than people anticipate.” HIGH PRAISE 🤝💙 Via Pat McAfee #leafs

🗣️ Martin Odegaard on playing with Bruno Guimaraes: “It was really good. Really good, really natural. Since the first day he came in, it’s been such a natural thing. “Although we had some big fights in the past with him, he’s just come into the team as a really natural part of the team. “You can see his quality. He can win the ball, he’s a fighter, but he also has so much quality on the ball. He has that calmness on the ball. He always takes the right amount of time and finds the pass. “So it was brilliant. Christos as well. Good to have new players performing like that already.” 🗣️ on how quickly his connection with Bruno developed: "I think it’s been so natural. I think the connection is already there. “You can see that he’s a top, top player. From the first second he’s in training, you feel that presence and the quality. “So I think it’s been really easy to connect with him. Brilliant player, so I’m looking forward to it.”

Sturm on Steeves who has 5 goals in the last 5 games: "I brought him up from the minors and I put him in more like a checking role and a fourth liner, and now look at him. So, good for him and again, he's a guy I trust. We'll see, it's tough to get him out of the lineup, I can tell you that." "He's very professional, even when he didn't like to go down. I remember he said, 'I will be back and I'm going to do everything I can to show you,' and that's what I like. And the way he said it, I believed it."

Easton Cowan says he’s still been in touch with Gavin McKenna, who he considers a good friend from their time together with Team Canada at the World Juniors. He even said McKenna would be just fine playing in a market like Toronto because of his skill and swagger. 😎 “We’ve stayed in touch. We were good friends at the World Juniors, and we’ve kept in contact. He gets a lot of hype and a lot of pressure. I think he’d be fine. He’s got that swagger. He’s a good player, he’s confident, and he has a ton of skill. That swagger is something I really like about him, so I think he’d do just fine in Toronto.” 🎥: Toronto Marlies #Leafsforever

Kevon Looney speaks on Luka Dončić’s LEADERSHIP and why the Slovenia trip showed his true character “I’ve been in the league for a while, and that was my first time doing something like that, to go into somebody’s country and bring us all out there and spend that much time together. I never did that before. So it just shows his character, showing that he really wants to win. He wants people to know his background, why he is, how he is. And I think we did a good job of that. You know he’s a great player and a great leader, and he likes to show what he can do on the court. And we got to see his personality, off the court. So it was great. You know, we’re gonna follow him"

Asked Julius Randle about his conversation with Mikel Brown Jr. after the draft: “I just told him I was excited to help him. I really wanna that vet he can come and talk to. I know how it is early in your career... I can be that veteran shoulder he can lean on every single day, whether it’s frustration, the highs and lows, teaching him how to work every single day, weight room, whatever it is. Or if he just needs to talk about life, I wanna be that vet for him and help him out. But he’s great. He’s got a steady head on his shoulders. You can just tell he’s a good kid who comes from a great family.”

Auston Matthews described visiting the White House yesterday as a huge honor for him and his teammates, becoming the first U.S. hockey team to win gold in 46 years. He made it clear he is not very political, but viewed the invitation as a great honor regardless of who is in office and hopes moments like this can help bring the country closer together: “We’re proud Americans, and doing something like that, winning a gold medal and representing your country, it felt like a special honor to be invited. I mean, it’s an honor. So it was pretty neat to go there, see everything, and just kind of share that experience with everybody. I don’t like to get political or get into that kind of stuff. Like I said, we’re proud Americans, and winning a gold medal, especially since it’s been 46 years since the men’s ice hockey team has done that, means a lot. The team that wins the Stanley Cup every year gets a White House invitation. I just think it’s something you do because we are proud Americans, whatever your political beliefs may be. Hopefully something like this can bring more unity to the country and things like that. But for us, we believe it’s a great honor no matter who’s in office.” 🎥: Toronto Maple Leafs #LeafsForever

I asked Jay Bilas what the argument is for Darius Acuff to be the #1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft: “He’s a walking bucket. Like the way he scores and how tough he is, he’s got those chest-down drives. He’s built differently than Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, but like those chest-down drives that those guys get, it reminded me a little bit of him. But, you know, you watch him in person and you’re like, ‘My God, who’s going to stop this guy?’ He’s scoring in the 30s, the 40s. And, you know, it’s just a stat, but, the first player to lead the SEC in scoring and assists, Maravich did it. That stands out. And in the SEC tournament, I mean, he was not good. He was great. And you’re thinking, how high is this ceiling going to be? And he’s really competitive because he was hurt. Like he played most of the year injured. He’d be in a boot during the week and then not really able to practice that much. And then he plays his tail off in the games. Really, really impressive.”
