Did Mathurin Travel? In real time, without the (unfair) advantage of slo mo replay, refs probably see this as a gather with left foot planting. But we can see that it's the back foot (right foot) on floor when both hands touch it, making the L-R-L after that a travel.

This is simply a great move &the ref decided to make a bad call b/c it didn’t look conventional. Dribble ends w/ both feet off the floor. 1st foot down becomes pivot foot. He then legally lifts pivot off the floor and releases ball into a shot before it comes back down 🎥 amanm4n74/TT

OK! Here's the best angle for the Grayson Allen gather & step thru. We're looking to see if he got the left foot down at same time/after he gathers with both hands. It's as close as humanly possible - hence, no way to detect with human eye in real time, benefit goes to the player. So next foot to touch becomes the pivot (in the NBA). Does he then move the right foot? YES - about 2.3 inches, which again, is difficult to detect in real time but it's there. Remember: refs need to be #certain on travel calls (unfair to use slow mo close up to judge but here we are). Without that slight move, perfectly legal move to lift the pivot foot in order to shoot or pass before it comes back down. 👌🏀

Randle w/ the good steal and in the open court, you could count 4 steps from the last dribble. But that's not how the rules work. We only count from when the dribble ends. It's still flaring until he puts both hands on the ball. Foot on floor does not count towards 2 legal steps

Screw it. I've been gatekeeping this, but here's a pro tip. Want to search someone's entire record on They try to make it difficult and force you to search court by court - one at a time. But I hacked the system. If you select Housing Court and then make the Court Location not match the Court Department, you can search by name and it brings up every case that person has had in every court. You're welcome!

This key bucket by Melo has a lot going on. First, you can take as much time as u like executing the legal 2 steps (as long as you're not in the lane for >3 secs). You can also drag the back foot, not considered a step. His left foot can also pivot on floor while balancing. I don't even think it moved, just pivoted. Maybe half an inch. Not enough for a ref to be *certain* so they cannot call that, even though I don't really know if it moved anyway.

The bar for doing that ought to be high, but we’re seeing with this Court—whether we’re talking about voting rights or a woman’s bodily autonomy, the right to decide with respect to her own body—they just strike down things they don’t like. They don’t have any respect, in the ways that we expect courts traditionally to, for precedent. And when precedents are torn down, you need a darn good reason to do it—and they are an activist court.
