This is simply a great move &the ref decided to make a bad call b/c it didn’t look conventional. Dribble ends w/ both feet off the floor. 1st foot down becomes pivot foot. He then legally lifts pivot off the floor and releases ball into a shot before it... show more

I teach players how to vary the gather to throw the defense’s timing off, plus I have them add the shot fake on that first step… all legal and very powerful

I think it was a bad call by the ref. Only thing I might say in the ref's favor, to be charitable, is it looks like that right foot drags on the floor a bit while the left foot comes down.

There’s also a line of thought that a pivot foot drag of a progressing player, during the 1-2 layup, isn’t a violation

I was taught your steps have to be in rhythm & you can’t stop and pause. It’s how 2 steps has been called my whole life. I’m surprised in your comments every agrees with you

I think we finally realized what the rulebook actually says

Legal on all levels. Gathers on right, single step on left. In high school pivot would be right foot and he never returns it after he lifts it before the ball was released.

Also, it’s not even all that clear to me that his right foot drags. Maybe the absolute point of the foot barely touches the floor but that would be very difficult to ascertain in real time

Ref should’ve known better. He’s allowed to stand on that foot all day as long as the other foot doesn’t come down.

I like this clip. Ref ruined the run

That’s clean.
