When we had our son and adopted our daughter, I couldn't wait to send them to Minnesota public schools. Now, 50% of Minnesota students can't read at grade level. 50% can't do math at grade level. This is unacceptable. This is criminal. Minnesota schools used to be a model for the country. Our kids deserve that again.

Project Baltimore made the discovery after a source gave us the unredacted test scores for every school in Baltimore City. The data has not yet been released to the public, but we didn't just find 13 city high schools with 0 students who tested proficient in math. We also looked at the city's top schools, and what we discovered there may be just as alarming. According to the state test results, these are Baltimore's 5 top performing high schools in terms of math proficiency. At these schools, a combined 809 students took the state math test in the spring. 92 students tested proficient, meaning a total of about 11% of students are proficient in math at the best high schools in Baltimore. When Maryland public school students take the state test, their scores place them in 1 of 4 categories. Level 1 is beginning, all the way up to level 4 distinguished. Of the 92 students who tested proficient in math at the 5 best Baltimore City high schools, All 92 tested into level 3. There were no level fours. In fact, there was not 1 high school student in the Higher city in math who achieved the highest level of proficiency. City School CEO, doctor Sonia Santelises, last Kear earned $445,000 in total compensation.”

Since 2019, CPS’s budget has grown by more than 57% to over $9 billion, yet there has been no significant improvement in test scores. Just 21% of students in Chicago can read and do math at an eighth-grade proficiency level. At Douglas Academy High School, which has the capacity for more than 900 students, only 34 were enrolled in 2024. The school spent $68,091 per student, 3x the average, yet failed to produce a single student proficient in either math or English at grade level.
