So over the years as a Content Creator for World of Warcraft, I've picked up a few great camera tricks that can make your footage look more professional. Not sure how widely known these are but I'll share some that I know and hopefully it will be helpful to someone! So firstly, let me show you how to do a smooth rotation shot. You're going to want to create a Macro for this with this script; /script MoveViewRightStart(0.15) To modify the direction, you can change the word "Right" to Left, In, Out, Up or Down. The number at the end indicates the speed of the rotation, the higher the number the faster the rotation. I tend to keep this fairly low for a nice non-sickening rotation. Now you can combine as many of these as you like. So if you wanted a smooth shot that zoomed in on your Character while rotating Right you would make a macro like this; /script MoveViewRightStart(0.15) /script MoveViewInStart(0.15) It is fun to play around with but you will also need to create a "Stop" macro. I go with a generic one like this which will stop all rotation in all directions; /script MoveViewLeftStop() /script MoveViewDownStop() /script MoveViewRightStop() /script MoveViewUpStop() /script MoveViewInStop() /script MoveViewOutStop() Another trick to get the best possible shots of areas or up close combat is to hide your Character model. Introducing the “Get” action in basketball to lacrosse! The “Get” is a 2man action where a player passes the ball to another player and sprints to go “Get” it back on a handoff. This action has similar concepts and reads to pick and roll, but the picker is actually the ball handler! In lacrosse, we have been experimenting with Gets because it creates so many interesting situations and reads for the players. The way we teach it in small sided games is to have one offensive player declare “I’m shut” and the defense has to face-guard him. From there we pick for the shut off player trying to spring them free for the Get. The ball handler has to engage and control their defender, anticipating the shut player trying to get open. The shut player can backdoor if being overplayed towards the get (rejecting the get), receive a flip, or continue curling around the ball getting open for a late pass. The ball handler can feed the reject, flip the ball, or fake the flip to attack the goal or make a late pass to the shut payer curling to the goal. I’ve seen examples of this run in men’s and women’s DI lacrosse at Ohio State and Northwestern, respectively and I’ve run this myself when I was coaching HS girls lacrosse. You will also see on this reel a sick application for Gets vs. a common big-little invert coverage where the short stick doesn’t go behind with his man and plays “Safety” in front of the net. Gets are fun for the players, are incredible for teaching your players 2man game on and off ball, dealing with double teams, and creativity with passing, and can be used to score goals. The Chaos Engine (Bitmap Brothers, 1993) is a great steampunk style action game, in typical Bitmap Brothers briliant fashion with excellent graphics and sound. You can play it in single-player mode (the computer will take on the role of the second player) or with a friend in two-player mode. Six characters are available to choose from, all with their own skillset and strength & weaknesses: Navvie, Thug, Brigand, Mercenary, Gentleman and Preacher/Scientist. Something I only found out later: For the North American release, the Preacher character was redesigned slightly and renamed as the Scientist because the game's North American publishers felt that a priest killing people was offensive. Not the most complex or innovative game (some even called it just a Gauntlet clone), yet highly playable and fun. Bitmap Brothers games always delivered!
