Baserunning rule‼️Runners are protected when running through first base. They lose that protection when their actions show an intent to advance to second. Intent is determined by the runners actions. Did the runner actually make a move toward 2nd? Did the runner change his/her path? Did the runner demonstrate...

Never crossed the line…how can that be considered an attempt

i disagree with the out call.

Don’t think I would have judged that as an attempt to advance. I see the back foot plant, but he doesn’t take a legitimate jab step towards second.

This is absolutely ridiculous to say he made a move towards second. But the rule as written is just stupid anyway, it rewards those who throw it away. Make it simple and way more definable...once you cross the line back into fair territory, you're fair game.

A key point I always tell my players is that this is a “in the opinion of the umpire” type call. And umpires, especially at the lower levels are…umm…let’s say, not perfect. Always default to turning in to remove at least some doubt. And always hustle back to the bag.

This is why you always run/turn to the right; that left turn is what got him.

Very subtle, but definitely made a movement.

Cubs fan here. It was the right call.

I think the @mlb rule should be if he crosses the white line then he is fair game to be tagged out. The current rule is too subjective.

He was about to cuz he saw the ball roll, but coach at 1st told him to hold. The cues I see: 1. He slightly began to round out for a turn 2. His weight shifted as though to turn That tells me he at least thought it. That's good enough for intent imho good call

No intent. The shuffle of his feet from 3 ft out foul to back to the baseline, gave the perception of intent but never followed through. A weak call, IMO, a lucky break for the catcher to get the call. Next time turn to the right.

Jesus if I see one more "just turn right". HE DIDN'T TURN RIGHT BECAUSE HE THOUGHT HE MAY GO TO 2ND ON AN OVERTHROW. Are we saying turn right always? Never take an extra base on an overthrow? This isn't "guy beats out a ground ball and lazily turns left and gets tagged"

So they can’t even turn around. Got it

Easy call and yes intent was shown, turned the wrong way.

Turn to the right. Like we all learned in little league. Pretty simple.

I know it sounds tickey tack but if the runner turns toward second base he'd better get moving to either base available. If he turns away into foul territory he is safe at first and can't be put out unless he makes a move toward second. I was taught this as player and as umpire.

I love my Cubs, but that little turn was enough. It's been that way for 100 years. Just because he immediately realized it was a bad idea to run doesn't change the fact he made the move...

Was taught that if you cross that white line you are fair game.

What I like about this play is that the first base coach knew the runner made a motion to second. Here he is saying "Get back to first!"

CGarhart 的头像

Because he turned in the direction of second they consider that intent.

Your taught in LL to turn the other way. Umps play LL also and know the unwritten/written rule. Bonehead play by the runner, especially if he had no intent.

I’d love for this rule to be reviewed in the offseason. It’s silly to judge it by intent.
