Basic Education says matric results will be published in newspapers as it's the norm. This is despite the Information Regulator saying this is illegal as prior consent from pupils is required. Minister Siviwe Gwarube says anonymity is guaranteed as only exam numbers and not names are published. #DStv403 #eNCA

38 years ago when I was pregnant with triplets, I went through the matric results in the newspaper to find inspiration for names.

Oh so thina bekudlalwa ngathi cause we even had our names and surnames mo pepeneneng for everyone to see 😂 consent didn’t apply for us.

Publish them wena Minister. Bathong.

She is right, it should be published, it was always like that. Those who fail, people close to them will know anyways even if results are not published.

Why were they being published in the first place? Unnecessary stress.

What is the public benefit of publishing individual's matric results?

since when has consent been a requirement? It is a set standard of the Basic Education of Mzansi Y must pupils call the shots when it's not them offering education.

What benefit is derived from publishing these results? And who actually benefits besides newspapers that make sales?

I don’t remember giving consent for my name and surname back in the 2000s. Does someone owe me money?

But exam numbers only is not good, their names should be published as well. What about children who gets diplomas, their names are on the diploma and they are called to the front.
